Paint Chips AHHHHH

it does not cure because its baked. it can take up to 30days for fresh paint to fully release its solvents. and for the water based paint stuff its new stuff. from what i read on sata site only cali is using waterborne paint. atleast here in the states.

Here is a little something I pulled off of the internet:

A topic for consideration, about which many people are misinformed, is when you can wax the vehicle or apply paint sealant. Looking back at the curing process, both the 1K and 2K systems are 90-95% cured upon cool down, after the bake process, in the factory spray booth. The additional 5-10% will cure within 3-7 days. This means that by the time any vehicle reaches its destination at a dealer, the paint is fully cured. By not applying some sort of protection to the paint surface upon delivery or shortly after, the customer is actually hurting the paint instead of helping it. Salesmen that say don't wax a car for 6-12 months are misinformed. This is a huge problem in our business because customers will tend to believe a salesman who knows nothing about paint, rather than a trained professional. This is often why fairly new cars are in such bad shape even after a short period of time.

I have never had any problems installing a clear bra on a brand new car, even if it was just delivered and built. I think everyone would benefit from the clear bra. Just make sure you find an installer that knows what they are doing.

Send emails to Mazda. I did, and I am going to see where that gets me. Chances are it might not work, but I can't afford to have my hood painted so it is worth a shot.

I complained so much to the dealer (because I had no idea this was a common issue when I bought the car) they said they'll have the regional service manager for the NE take a look. I have yet to follow through with it. Now that winter's over I should call back. Same thoughts it may get me nowhere except annoying people but who knows ...

yeah, a clear bra might help. BUT you can wax a car all you want but as soon as a rock hits your bumper at 100mph, it's taking the paint off. waxing doesn't prevent rock chips, it prevents more maintenance down the road, and maybe small scratches. i've had my car for a year and haven't waxed it yet. i wish i would have sooner but still... as long as i clay it and then wax it... good as new! :)

mask???(huh)

i just ordered the langka paint chip repair kit... I hope this helps out. I'll try in a spot out of view not the ones on my HOOD or my ROOF or my DOORS (gaahhh!!! (pissed))

I found many chips after the winter. I never got to wash and wax it after taking it in because it was winter. Then we head straight into the constant raining April month. I only got to wash and wax it recently, which is when I saw all these nicks and chips. I'm pissed that the car is only 3k miles, and it has more chips than my 2000 Nissan Sentra.

is there anything we can do about? I don't want a billion chips in 5 years.

I used to love washing my car now I dread what I'll find !!!

Well the email I sent was useless. I never got a reply. I just mailed a letter out today. If I don't get a reply, my next step is to have a lawyer send a letter. I know it may be a bit extreme, but I am tired of dealing with this. I should not need to have the entire hood repainted after 10 months of ownership.

The best response I got was the dealer offered for the regional service manager to take a look at it ... I never followed through I got busy with work travelling etc. I suppose I could try again.

I went to the dealership to get a second key programmed (only had one when I bought the car) and mentioned the paint chips. They didn't fix them, but gave me the touch-up paint. Oh well, good enough I guess. Those paint chips show up BLACK on my silver paint.

that's not always easy!!! (hand)

Let me know how you made out when its done.
It won't be until July when I go vaca but I'll stop in after to let you know how it looks and post pics, before and after. The winter will be the big test though. I go to the Catskill mountains and stay in our summer place there, which take travelling on dirt roads, off road to get around the iced down road that is not passible in the winter.

sweet def let me know. I took mine off roading in VT to go snowboarding in the winter... damn TomTom bottomed out in a snow plowed road ...

Their photos look bogus. Specifically the side view mirror shots. They look like someone used a Sharpie to make fake chip marks and then just washed them off. Why aren't there any chips below the mirror on the part that meets the body of the car? Also, you can see little white bumps along with the black dots in the first photo, which I assume is supposed to be the paint lumps, but why are they there before the chip marks are gone? Hmmm... then in the last photo, everything is gone. Weird. :)

Back on topic, I was initiated into the "royally-pissed-off-I-was-chipped" club today on the way to work. I drive about 70 miles on the highway everyday and try to make it a habit NOT to tailgate, but today a rock came up out of nowhere and I heard it hit the car somewhere, but it sounded like it came from under the car. Well after I got to work, I noticed a two chips/scratches on the driver's side fender where it flares out right behind the headlight. I've had the car for less than two weeks. F%ck rocks!

It looks real to me. The quality and resolution of those mirror pics isn't really enough to prove or disprove the claims of Langka. I have the stuff and have used it. It's not a perfect fix, but good enough for me.
