ok so im getting ready to start my msp project. im kinda stumped as to the ecu part. im taking the stock engine out and replacing it with a different engine (that doesnt use a ecu). does the ecu control the electronics like headlights/turn signals/horn/radio/ etc. or is that just ignition to the fuse panel/relays that control that stuff? thanks for the info.

The ECU is just that...Engine Control Unit, so fuel, timing, ignition and with Automatics shifting.....plus all the sensors involved in engine function...but definitely NOT radio, headlights, airbags, ABS....There are some that I not sure like Speedometer, Tachometer, Fuel Gauge, Temp Gauge...uhhhmmm...

So do you have a "magic" engine??? What kind of management will you be using??? or is it not a old Carburator or something???

old carb engine. so i should still be able to use my interior functions (im also going with all aftermarket gauges so no stock gaug cluster either). now what about the alarm would removing the ecu make that go crazy?

Nope, the alarm is it's own control box and sensor...just needs 12V power to function..

That's a hell of a re-build....What engine you putting in???

chevy 350 with a th350 trans and hopefully a narrowed rear out of a z28 (posi and disc brakes) or ill just go with a ford 9" narrowed rear.

im gonna tint out the back windows so no one can tell i wont have any rear interior, rollcage, fuel cell in the trunk and im gonna try to keep the front interior as stock looking as possible except im adding racing seats, a different center console and autometer gauges where the stock cluster is.

ive been thinking about gutting all the wiring on the inside but i like the power windows, door locks and alarm. no a/c, heat and possibly power steering (depending on clearance)

Uh not trying to bash on this but are you serious? Your gonna spend that much money converting everything over?

im sorry but i just dont see this being realistic, especialy if you dont know what an ecu is.

There is going to be a grip of work required to do this.

try a piasini reflash!!!
go back to stock factory ecu and get piasini to reflash your ecu and no probs with electrics.

dude it would be awesome to have a 350 in a msp. GL i hope you wont just bail in the middle of the build!!! gonna have to keep us posted. are you going to have to move the fire wall back any?

i never said i dont know what an ECU is i was just asking a simple question about if its tied into the dash electronics...and as for the money into this build...in the past 5 years ive put about $30k (parts+labor) in my airbagged truck redoing the suspesion 3 times and all..im figuring less then $5k (out of pocket) into this build with the msp...how much do most guys put in there built forged motors?

i dont think ill have to move the fire wall but im gonna have to cut the floor probably from the firwall back to about where the ebrake is for the tranny to fit. a very good friend of mine is a fabricator and builds dirt modified cars and s*** like that and ive ran this by him long before mentioning it on here. we're putting the car on the lift friday hopefully to measure up for the rear and hopefully this weekend ill start tearing the car apart.
