Seals aren't bad, too much oil

So about 3 weeks ago I was burning a lot of oil through my exhaust, assuming it was leaking through the turbo seals and into the downpipe and burning off. I thought immediately I had a bad seal, as it was doing this for more then 2 days. I stopped driving it, called Mazda to hear they voided my warranty due to an aftermarket "fuel intake" they called it. Assuming they ment air intake, which they did, but that's another story.

About a week and a half later and more then a grand out of my pocket (bought a used turbo and had the PG rebuild done), I started my car to find it was no longer smoking. I was confused on why it was no longer burning oil. I FINALLY checked my oil dipstick and it looks like Mazda put at least a quart more then was needed when changing the oil in my car. The dipstick is still showing about 1/4" past the MAX line on the dipstick. So after all this confusion and hassle, come to find out that some incompetent airhead didn't do an oil change correctly.

Two days after I had the oil change done (02/09 was the exact date), it was extremely cold out about 25 degree and the car was backfiring and when I tried to leave my driveway, it kept shutting off. I had to wait 10 minutes to have the car fully warmed up before leaving to run a couple errands.

I haven't called the Mazda dealership that changed my oil, but I am going to speak directly to the service manager. What should I expect from them a free oil change done right, or more?

Sorry for the venting, but I'm a little irritated.

What you should expect is free oil changes for a year (at least!), but what you'll probably get is a free oil change and the runaround. Stealerships really suck.

I am so glad I denied Mazdas oil change program. I would way rather change my own oil knowing it was done right and the correct quality fluids were used and that something like this is not going to happen.

When I bought the car, they had previuosly changed the oil with 5w20 (which is whats recomended for the NA 3), so I would think they used conventional as well.

And Im going to trust them to change it properly every time for several years? No way.

They may just offer a free change, but as they have proven, they arent capable of changing oil properly.

Good luck, keep us posted.

Hearing about how incompetent some of these dealers are makes me sick to my stomach

My dealership swore that I was somehow using my hks bov to turn up the boost. My nissan dealership never gave me any kind of crap, they once told me to get on it leaving the dealership after an oil change and my clutch/pressure plate had something go wrong with it. Had to limp back to the dealership in 2nd cause I couldn't get it to go in any other gear and they gave me a ride home and picked me up the next day and I had a brand new tranny, and clutch/pressure plate, flywheel.

Very glad you brought this up. I too have experienced the same smoking in my car. Just recently had my DP and MP installed as well. I've been checking my oil and its way above the fill line (Stealership oil change). Its even above the little bent part of the dip stick. Hopefully when I change my oil next time the smoke will disappear. Crossing fingers!

Almost seems like the stearlerships are putting too much oil in your cars out of spite because you got a DP and MP.

For those of us trying to hold on our warranties... I would LOVE to change my own oil to make sure stupid s*** like this doesn't happen. Without oil change receipts from Jiffylube or something they won't honor the warranty, will they??

The first oil change that I did, I noticed that putting all six quarts in puts it past the full line on the dipstick even after letting the car run after changing the oil. Unless I read the manual wrong, but 6 quarts of oil is to much for this car.

Also read "6" quarts. Getting my first change done this coming weekend.... how many quarts should we run it at?

+1
6 quarts reads at least 1/4" above the max line on the dipstick.

They changed my oil prior to me installing the DP and MP...They probably just dump the oil in there and dont care how much they put in, just as long as it reads full or above full. Definitely not having anybody else change my oil anymore...seems as if I always have problems when others do it. Especially with the oil filters. They tighten them fuggers so much its impossible to get them off (non Mazdas that is...so far...).

To tell you the truth, I have never looked at the 6th bottle of oil to see how much I have left in it. I don't want to guess and give you bad information.

Hmmm....That is weird...I've noticed now though, that as my engine burns the oil back down to the "full" line, there is less smoke coming out my tailpipe. I wonder how much Mazda flooded my engine with...? Has anybody had an Oil Analysis done on their MS3 used oil? I've heard of one being completed and the report said that the 5W30 was broken down due to dilution with gas. And that a heavier weight oil or an oil that doesn't take to gas is better. Such oil as Penzoil Platinum. Anybody else hear about this?

Sorry if this is a stupid question but for those people who show too much oil, are you fully heating up the car, parking it in a level place and letting it sit for a couple of minutes before checking the dip stick? Just wondering if the oil is still splashing around in there which may skew the results a bit.

I have been doing that since the early 1980.

You're suppose to always check your oil when the engine is cold, so no.
