Boost Surge? Hiccup @ 3000rpmish

Hey folks,

Since I bought the car approx 3000 miles ago, Ive noted on like 70-90% throttle(but not if i wind it up from say <2k @ WOT) I get this hiccup in third and fourth gears.

Feels like you let off the gas briefly as you were hitting the 2750-3000rpm mark. Any clues? I havent taken it in for service yet and it really hasnt been a huge PITA or anything, but I cant imagine that its normal either.

Ok, you have 4 clamps on your boost tubes and 1 clamp on your Turbo cold side inlet. Check all 5 clamps to ensure they are tight. Don't just try to pull the hose, actually put a wrench on them and turn.

You will need to take off the TMIC (4 nuts and a couple clamps that need to be checked anyway....3m tops) to get to the turbo inlet clamp and its a tight squeeze but be sure to do it as this one is the one that gets very lose. The other one to be sure to do is the TMIC Cold Side Intake clamp. When you take off the TMIC it will be the clamp not touced on the hose on the front of the car. It's kinda hard to get too (ratchet wise) but if you feel first you can get to it easy.

Anyway, your problem is most likely this and its good to check at least once a month (They tend to get loose over time).

Hope this helps and I fail to see why the mods don't Sticky this. Everyone that I have known on these forums and others that has check their clamps have found that they were loose as hell.

Thanks.. Ill mention this when I take it up for service(goin up pretty soon), then eventually get fed up and check it myself =P

Bravnik you state that the hose clamps get loose and they should be checked once a month????????

Are you kidding me? Is this a common problem?

Does someone sell an improved clamp that will not get loose?

I guess I need to check my clamps.

Ed

Its always good to check your clamps. They do tend to loosen up over time. If you would like to upgrade your clamps, you can get T-clamps which work very well.

So assuming we did find a problem with the clamps and we want to go to tclamps how many are we talking about?
#1 - out of the turbo
#2 into the intercooler
#3 out of the intercooler
#4 into the intake

Am I missing any is there another pressurized joint?

Does anyone know the diameter?

Turbo Cold Side Intake Clamp. Follow your CAI/Stock AirBox to the turbo inlet and you will see it.

You will need 3 2.5 TBolts and 2 3in T-Bolts to clamp it all.

It's not under pressure true, but it is one of the ones that tends to get loose first. Thus allowing un-metered air into the system and messing s*** up.

Bravnik - what is the breakdown?

You are giving me info for 5 clamps.

Are the two 3" clamps in and out of turbo and the remaining three 2.5" clamps into the intercooler, back out, and into the intake?

I am surprised that the one into the turbo is causing trouble when it is not pressurized?

I don't truely remember. I think the hot side of the TMIC is 2.5in and the Cold Side is 3in. The Turbo intake is 2.5.

Again, it's not pressurized true but a leak past the MAF is not good and will allow un-metered air into the system which will cause proplems as the car reads the air intake from the MAF and adjusts by that. So a leak past the MAF is just as bad as a boost leak.
