mazdaspeed 3 emblem

Wow. S unit wants $340 for four tiny pieces of metal. I'm thinking of getting fancy and doing some masking anyway. I need to figure out a way to maintain shininess though. Those DIY links are certainly a start.

Heh, yeah. Family Guy is the best.

I was just thinking that, about the spray booth. I was thinking for 340, you may as well just take your badges off and go pay a body shop to do a nice spray job for you. They'd probably welcome the quick job, too. How much did they charge you for that, if you don't mind me asking? And pics would be nice.

i know someone who owns a shop and a spray booth.....so free....not sure how much it would run. I will take pics when I get to work and post them tonight around 10.

Ok, while we're talking about removing the back emblem, I'm going to confess something. I scrubbed the left over residue off a bit too hard when I did this and ended up making swirls in my clearcoat. I have now tried 3 different scratch remover products (Maguire's, 3M and something else). 3M made the most difference, but at certain angles and up close you can still see it.

Any suggestions for removing these swirls entirely? It's a large area (3" x 8" or so) and I would like to avoid tossing touch-up paint over it.

Thank you

Run you finger nail over the area to see how deep they are.. If you snag then they are going to require some wet sanding/polishing to remove.. Just be careful because the clear is pretty thin on these cars.

Now I am sure they are not that bad so I will point you over to autogeek.com. They have a huge inventory of scratch removers and polishes. If you are trying to do this by hand it may take a very long time so I suggest you pick up something like a Dual Action polisher like the Porter 7424.. Its a great product that you will use over and over again for minor paint repair. If the 3M made the most difference then I would suggest reading the back and finding a product that is a bit more aggressive and then use a polish afterwards to bring back the shine..I have heard good things about XMT Heavy Duty Swirl Remover #4 but remember if you go with something like this to also pick up a polish like Pinnacle XMT Ultra Fine Swirl Remover to remove the scatches the first product may leave behine. Good luck
