Help with BOV choice

I am going to upgrade from my factory bov one my MS3. I am looking at the forge, turbosmart, and turbo xs (all three would be in hybrid 50/50 mode). Does anyone have any advice, personal experience, or sound clips? (I've already dug through youtube btw...) If I go with the forge, can I put in a different spring or something if I turns out I have the super mario brothers coinbox sound??

Also, this is my first post. I bought my 08 Metropolitan Gray Mica MS3 a week ago yesterday. I wanna hold on to my warranty so I will probably add tint and a sri I can remove for warranty work. If anyone is interested in a moderately modded 1996 Integra, it's for sale, drop me a line!!

Is there a particular reason you want to upgrade the BPV?

(BTW our car does not have a BOV from the factory, it's a bypass valve)

ive got the turboxs rfl, vta it is LOUD!! i love it!!,I have the standback htought so I tuned out the backfire associated with vta

I like the way the turbosmart sounds... I dont have one, but plan on getting one when I got the funds. I tried looking up the turboxs one but youtube doesnt have a good video of it.

Forge isn't a hybrid!

Anyway, I have the Forge. Loved it when I put it on the CX7, so it was a simple decision when I bought the Speed3.(hump)

I'd love to rock the Turbosmart, but no way was I gonna spend as much for a BOV as I was a downpipe and three quarters of a midpipe, lol. I picked up the HKS, decided it was to much trouble to put it together, sold it, and sometime this week I should be getting the Synapse Synaptic BOV.

Ordered TurboXS

I ended up ordering the turboxs hybrid 50/50 last night. Hopefully I'll have it installed this weekend and post some sounds, pics, and/or vids. I loved the sound of the turbosmart, but at almost twice the price, I just couldn't do it. I am a teacher (with an open contract) and this week coming up is spring break... so I'm missing a week of pay, you understand.

Why did I get a new bpv? I've heard the factory one leaks and the ms3 will hold upto an extra psi or two. That and, not gonna lie, I love the sound, even if it is a bit ricey (rei)

50/50. some of the air is still vented to atmosphere. That air is 'metered' in that the car is expecting it to stay within the system, but instead it's being vented. As a result, the car will still inject a certain amount of fuel, but there wont be as much air as is expected, so you run will run extra rich between shifts.

The car will overall just feel jerkier when you left off the gas in gear (due to rich condition again). It has the same symptoms as VTA, but just not as bad. I guess running rich between shifts could also make the cats go bad quicker, but I dunno how much that's really gonna matter. Sometimes you'll hear burps or pops in the exhaust, this is extra gas (from the extra rich shift) ignited or whatever somewhere in the exhaust.

I had the SU Hybrid....but I went back to stock once for fun and forgot what I was missing out on (driveability and smoothness of operation). That's why i sold it..kind of miss the sound sometimes but honestly I would get a full recirc valve. TurboXS does have a full recirc valve too! (You should get it and tell us what you think, no one seems to have it lol)

aaronc7 pretty much summed it up. Yes, you will still run rich in between shifts resulting in drivability issues; long term damage could result to the catalytic converters and your Wide Band O2 sensor ($400).

This was confirmed by a couple of vendors when I was looking to buy a BOV/BPV. I also wanted a VTA or 50/50, but not at the expense of drivability or my engine/sensors/cats.

If you get a piggy back ECU, then you can tune for the VTA or 50/50.
A few owners out there still run VTA or 50/50 regardless of issues...

if your car is stock or near stock then ya. Get an SRI first, you'll be able to hear the stock one really well.

I don't plan on doing more than a CAI a rear motor mount and I thought a BOV. So it sounds like a waste not sure what a SRI is but I will look into it.

I was just on protege garage website and there is a stop sale on mazdaspeed CAI, does anyone know why? and would I be better off getting a full CAI or the shorter cheaper SRI?

If i'm going to spend money I want most performance from my money, does the CAI give me more ponies than the SRI?

Sorry for the stupid questions.

According to dyno tests, the MS CAI has yielded slighty more horsepower than the SRIs...
(According to Mazdaspeed the MC CAI yields 25HP at the crank)

Mazda announced a stop sale on the MS CAI due to some owners having a lean idle code (CEL). Mazda is going to continue selling the MS CAI, but it may now come with an ECU reflash...all this is from the grapevine though at this time...

I've had my MS CAI on since 11/07 and I've had no issues...
The few that have had issues are owners in extremely cold weather...

no plastic piece = hydrolock!?!

I was talking to a friend of mine today who's a mechanic, does regular maintenance, but performance isn't really his thing. Showed him my new turboxs 50/50. Since I had taken off the cover next to the airbox, he claims that I will end up sucking water when it rains. Does anyone have any validity to this claim?? Pics are up btw.

Ive been wanting an MS3, and I was thinkin the first thing i'd do was to put a BOV on it, I loved the turbosmart BOV sound from youtube, but if you guys are saying it'll cause probs, then i wont get one whenever i buy the MS3. :( But i did plan to go SRI - so if you can really hear the stock BPV then, that's all i'd be after - everyone loves a loud, mean-sounding turbo! Very intimidating!

....everyone loves a loud, mean-sounding turbo! Very intimidating!

There is nothing loud, mean sounding, or intimidating about our turbos.

Even with an SRI, you can't hear the turbo at all, just the sucking sound of the air going through the open filter. Far from intimidating.
