RX8 TPMS in Speed6

Hey guys, I think they call those things the TPMS, those things that sense the tire pressure in the wheels. Does anyone know/think it's possible that the TPMS from a RX8 will work in our speed 6's

TPM Systems have monitors in the wheels for Tire PSI Readings. They are transferable between wheels, it just takes longer then a normal wheel swap.

Mazda uses the same TPMS sensors across their entire model range. As long as the wheel is made to accept the TPMS sensor you can interchange between the different cars. I had a set of RX8 wheels on my Mazda3 and it was equiped with TPMS and the RX8 sensors worked fine on my MZ3.
That being said the MS6 is NOT equiped with the TPMS monitoring system. Just having the sensors in the wheels will not give you TPMS capability....

I didn't realize the Speed6 didn't have TMPS. I'm pretty sure there is a law that requires them now. I wonder how Mazda got out of it for the speed6, especially considering they use the same sensor in all their vehicles.

Accordingly, the agency is implementing a four-year phase-in period as follows: 10 percent of a vehicle manufacturer's affected vehicles must be equipped with a TPMS that complies with either the four-tire, 25 percent or the one-tire, 30 percent option in the first year (i.e., November 1, 2003 to October 31, 2004); 35 percent in the second year (i.e., November 1, 2004 to October 31, 2005); 65 percent in the third year (i.e., November 1, 2005 to October 31, 2006). After October 31, 2006, 100 percent of a vehicle manufacturer's affected vehicles must be equipped with a TPMS that complies with the requirements set forth in the second part of this final rule. As noted above, the agency will publish the second part of this final rule by March 1, 2005, in order to give manufacturers sufficient lead time.

Time frame for TPMS got changed to the end of 2007. All 2008 cars after Sept 2007 are required to have TPMS as part of its standard equipment.... So the 2007 Speed6 was exempt from being required to have it and it wasnt offered as a option either...

thank god for that because if you do have a dedicated set of summer and winter you would need the sensors in both and a set of sensors is like $200 bucks.

Thats odd... I had the TPMS in my 04 s 5 door as well as my 07 speed... I didn't realize the 6's didn't have the option as a standard...???

You can get them for roughly 50-75 each if you look around. On the CX7 at least if you don't have them in there is no sound, etc. Its just a yellow light that comes on on your dash.

I dunno if it stays on indefinately or turns off after a certain amount of time, etc. If I got winter tires for my CX7 I wouldn't bother with another set. I can live with the yellow light for 4 or 5 months, or just put some tape over it.

Great discussion guys. I knew that we didn't have it. My question is if it's possible to take the system from an RX8 and adapt it to the Speed6, is there possibly a light on the cluster that's just deactivated that we can plug in the appropriate brain box and add the wheel sensors and good to go?

Thats rediculous. Adding more and more of these features is why our world is getting as lazy as it is. Stop making things so danm easy, and it will give ppl a reason to try and take care of their cars.

No.

It isn't a matter of laziness, it's a matter of making your car different than others.

i fail to see how adding something now that is standard on all new cars makes yours any different than the rest of them.

buy a tire pressure gauge with the magnet and put it on the inside of your gas cap, they cost less than a buck and serve the same purpose in a less high tech and non-blingy way.
