MS3 GT option questions

I have a 2 questions regarding options on the MS3 GT.

Auto Headlights + HID. When I start my car, what I do is I put the key in the On position (where the dash completely lights up) and let the fuel prime slightly for 2 or 3 seconds. Then I fully turn the key and start the car. In the past, when i've had cars with auto lights (plus a radar detector that's hard wired to a hot source with ignition), everything would turn on, then while I turn the key all the way to start the car, everything would shut off. My question is..if HID's arn't meant to be turned on and off rapidly, I probably should utilize Auto headlights right? Because essentially what's going to happen is I'll put it in ON, the HID's are going to start glowing for those two seconds then when I crank the ignition, the HID's are going to temporarily turn off right?

I don't have the car yet, but i'm asking.

Second question is, Rain-Sensing Wipers. I should probably search but, the way I understand is that it can sense when rain is on the windshield or can tell how much atleast. But does this also amount to snow or snowflakes? I hear this feature doesn't work too well in the winter time.

Thanks for the patience with these dumb questions but i'd really like to know atleast.

the auto headlights come on and off when its dark or light, not when the ignition is turned on and off.

I cant tell you about the rain sensing in the snow.. I know it works pretty well for me when it rains and whatnot.

Well exactly. Say it's at night, and you're starting your car. If you put the key in "On" it's going to turn the HID's on. Then when you crank, they'll shut off -- atleast thats what i'm assuming, and that's also really bad.

Most people just put the key in and crank, and you'd never notice it with that method. But I try to be a little more gentle with my cold starts, letting it prime a couple seconds. Always had smooth starts that way. My 03 Grand Am would crank forever and sometimes not want to start unless I put it in "on" and prime first, then crank.

Yes if you use that method the lights will turn on, then off again when you crank it. The light sensors are very sensitive. When driving on the freeway sometime the lights turn on just from driving under an overpass, and then turn off again quickly. I hope this will not significantly reduce the lifespan of the bulbs.

The auto wipers work really well in the rain I've found, and they do pretty good for snow flakes. The problem in the winter is the tire spray mist that end up accumulating. I can't seem to find the right sensitivity setting for the wipers to do a good job at this. They either don't move at all, or move too often and end up just smearing dirt around.

I guess that's exactly why I'm glad I asked. If that's the case, I'd rather just not use auto HID at all. As everyone knows, HID's are not supposed to turn on and off rapidly. I'm sure it won't hurt too often, but I wonder any unsuspecting person if they know that's bad.

tube- where in MI you at? Do you have a MS3 as well?

Yup...i just let myself be make the judgement on when to turn the light on/off =p

I also have HID Fog and I hate it when I forget to turn them off too. I am not suppose to leave the fog on because it drains alot of battery when turning both HID on at the same time, as least that's what I am told.

Speaking of fog lights, they can turn on with just the parking lights right?

I figure that's what I could do if it ever got dark during rain and stuff, just turn parking lights with fogs if need be.

no the headlights have to be on in order for the foglights to be on. atleast from the factory, i am sure you can bypass this.

It's just a matter of finding the fog lamp wire and splicing it into the wire for the running lamps (as opposed to the headlamps).

Did this on my old car, it's pretty straight forward. If you have a voltmeter and a few minutes time you can probably figure it out.

make sure you spice it so that it will sound the alert if you leave it on =p
