ETS 3.25" TMIC Finally Installed!!!

thank you autoxracer, and swampass for giving me some useful answers. looks like a tmic will be added to my plans for this car! Im just trying to find out what will help this car perform at its best in the heat here. i am not looking forward to this summer, but I'd take the heat over any amount of snow and ice

tmic is the best way, Ur heat soak wont be bad. as soon as u get going its fine, Its less headache of doing a fmic and u have less lag. I think fmic is good bling factor/ or if ur running 400+whp or something then it really helps. but with that u cant run a cold air intake.

Corksport uses the old TMIC location for a ramair intake..

yeah, exactly, im not tryin to go all out or anything, just trying to do simple, somewhat warranty safe mods that'll make my car fast as hell. i mean, once you cross the 300whp line, i can't imagine being able to get all of that power to the ground through 2 front wheels on anything but slicks

i may be wrong, but I dont believe it does much for a turbo motor

Any positive pressure in the intake side helps any car. Might not make gobs of horsepower, but its a lot better than the engine trying to suck in air...

Always remember, an engine is an air pump, the secret to making horsepower is to get the air (as much as you can) in and out as fast as possible.

So every little bit helps. Plus imagine on those cool/cold nights, getting all that dense positive pressure air rushing into the turbo inlet side... I can see psi gains.

The OEM plastic shroud/cover fits over it, right? If this improves drivability in warm climates, I'm totally sold.

Any benefits to the different versions? I'm seeing various finishes and even the 3.50" size.

The stock shroud does not fit on any of the ETS TMICs. They come with an aluminum plate that seals against the hood.

Gotcha, thanks for the pic.

Advantage to getting the black one? I know for FMIC people like it for stealth reasons, but methinks that it must offer something in the way of conducting heat.

RPM Store just confirmed that the black is cosmetic. The 3.50" was the original design but some people have issues with it hitting the hood ducting. They now sell the smaller 3.25" version that properly clears...but is technically inferior in terms of cooling.

I disagree, its not inferior... Tests have shown there is basically no performance gains between both. Its just the 3.5 will resist heat soak slightly less...but if you take in consideration that it has a less efficient air flow thru its core, it might be a wash...

He called it "marginally less efficient", so I think he's in agreement that the difference is miniscule.
