stock kenwood dead--anyone seen this?

My stock kenwood head unit is acting funny. After starting the car and driving away, it rotated from the normal "on" position to a half-closed position and completely shut down. Now it's looking "upward," and all buttons are unresponsive. From here I can slide it horizontally out of it's tray..a few seconds later the tray folds up into the normal "on" (not closed) position. If I then re-insert the face plate (so it's in the normal on position, controls facing outward)--no lights, no response of any kind. Then a few seconds later it rotates back to the belly up dead fish position.

Yes, I've cleaned the contacts and did the old Atari 2600 "blow on the cartridge" trick, to no avail.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this? I've never abused the system and it is bone stock. No fuses are blown (obviously the head unit is still powered).

Hit the Reset, and Unplug the positive cable from the battery for 5 minutes, mine used to do the same thing, and solve the problems with these simple accion... at least try it, for me worked.

the reset only works for so long. I had to reset mine about 5 or 6 times, then it finally bit the dust and nothing would bring it back.

but yeah, try the reset first, if that doesnt work, then time for a new HU

Orlando, thanks! I opened up the MSP audio/electronics topic thinking it would be there, and saw all of 19 posts, so I didn't think to search other topics. I'll try the fuse thing and if no go, the cable it is.

thanks all

Its your time and money, but you'll be wasting both fixing the POS stock headunit. Its made to fail. Replace it with something else and enjoy a better sound.

I am on my third Kenwood head unit. If my insurance didn't buy the last one I would have trashed it years ago. Kenwood=Krap. I have a brand new 2008 model and it is a pos

Happened twice to me (replaced when still under warranty, 2nd one did it also). Pretty crappy - now I'm running a Panasonic unit - and not expecting anymore of that nonsense. And I take care of my stuff too. Ah well.
