Any feedback on the 2008 navigation system on the Mazda 5 would be appreciated.
Is it easy to use?, are the road maps up to date?, how does it compare to third party nav systems like the Garmin? etc.....
Is it worth the $2900 CDN to get the Nav/6disc/MP3 option?
Thanks

Not to thread jack but I am selling my Tom Tom one XL if you are interested Karakuri, just incase you decide against in car Navi.

i personally think, there is no reason to get factory Navi system except for its "looks". Since price for aftermarket Navi came down "big time" it is better to get decent aftermarket one instead of fatory navi and use the saving for other stuffs , but that is just me. (ghey)

I am totally agree on Dreamym5. If the factory Navi System is under a CND$1000, I may think about to buy it because the look and 6 CD.

personally, I would rather buy the portable GPS. its usable in all of your cars.

I just got the garmin nuvi 350 on mine and I'm loving it so far.

No GPS? I think that would almost be necessary and I think if you read your owners manual you will see that the factory navi uses both GPS and odometer/accelerometer readings in case the GPS signal is blocked or not accurate enough.

Hey guys my dealer told me the factory navi is not sattelite based? How does this work?

It gets your location off satellites... Your dealer is an idiot.

It will use vehicle speed and steering angle sensors to "guestimate" your location if it loses a satellite signal while going through a tunnel or other area with poor signal from the satellites. The DVD just contains the map and POI data so it can show you where you are based on the GPS data.

other than around here the crooks have been breaking into the cars that have the nav mounting circles on the windshield, whether the nav is visible or not. Guess they figure most people just store them in the glovebox or something. I like the factory nav, can't forget it, can't lose it, always has power, always in the car....course we didn't pay any extra for it.

I've got a 2008 GT w/Navi and I love the system, works very well. Maps are up to date, and I've used Garmin and TomTom 920. It doesn't read out the street names like the high end units, but the 7" screen is much bigger than the 4.3 inch screens of the portable units. No regrets, I would spend the money again.

I really love the way the 7" screen looks embedded onto the console but am having a hard time justifying the $2900 CDN.
Wonder why it's so expensive??? I'm gonna have to write to Mazda Canada...
Anyhoot, I'm gonna be ordering the 5 as soon as I sell my current car so I need as much feedback regarding the factory nav....hopefully from people who have it and used it.
Thanks
