hello folks, i am a newbie, i am a musclecar guy, this is my first new car purchase, and i am very excited about this car. i just bought a 2008 silver mazdaspeed3 sport. i couldn't quite afford the gt, so i settled on this one. i am very happy so far, i just put on the ms cai, and i bought the gas cap, i know, but i like the look of it.
boy, coming from the antiquated world i know,(carbs, blowers, etc..) there is a lot to learn! the one thing i sure could use, is a breakdown of all the abbreviations.
i am just figuring out the cai, sri, but am getting lost on a lot of the other ones. is there a breakdown for the modern tech handicapped?
all kidding aside, i am a happy camper with this car, i won;t mod it too much, i want to keep the factory warranty stuff intact, but am going to do the shifter bushings, the corksport motor mount fills, little things. i have no idea what all these map clamps, etc, are, or how to even begin with that stuff. i know my way around an old car, i have restored several, so i am not afraid to wrench, but there isn't a whole lot of wrenches that fit this ecu stuff!!
all in all, this looks like a great place too, i joined i believe what is referred to as 'the other' mazda site, maybe not, who knows. looking forward to learning from you all, so be patient with the caveman here. here is a pic of my other daily driver,(when it's not raining of course, i live in portland oregon, so that limits me to a couple months a year tops....) it gets 12 mpg on the highway, waaay less in the city, but is a whole lot of fun. boost is good, that is why i went the ms3 route. the turbo takes some getting used to, i am used to instant throttle response, but to have this kind of power in a daily, dependable, new car, is awesome.
take care folks, see ya around...
