Free High performance BOV's for everyone!!!

Mazdaspeedjay,
Sounds like a plan. Be careful none of the fiddly bits can end up inside the manifold. Murphy was an optimist!

How much is a stock BPV anyway, might be fun to play with.

Mazdaspeedjay,
Murphy was an optimist!

That would be O'Sullivan's corollary.

Most people forget the second half of Murphy's law.

Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong.
At the worst possible moment

Although there was an engineer in the fifties named Murphy who had a good one too.
"If there are two or more ways to do something, and one of those can result in catastrophe, then someone will do it."

The Valve is glued or melted together it seems, it would be a bad idea to try and rip it apart i would think, unless you just had a spare and didn't mind possibly destroying it, thats why i came up with the heating and crushing method so that the factory seal wouldn't be sacrificed in anyway.

The stock BPV is +$160 with special pricing, prolly $+200 from a normal stealership. I bet Mazda pays less than $20 for the unit.....

I plan to do this, but I will be a little more careful now that I know the value of the part!

If we had an adapter flange to the correct size hose, we would have many options for aftermarket BPVs <$60. I may pursue this in the Spring.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good/cheap BPV? This one looks interesting and is tuneable. $65 shipped is not too bad. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Bosch-Turbo-Bypass-Valve-for-Audi-Porsche-VW-Diverter_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33742QQihZ016QQitemZ260206341220QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

thanks my NiG! already see boost holding to redline!

... i love free mods...!!!

not too much of a difference with the whole sound...
but i still love it!

OMG it's a 3 armed alien. You've given yourself away! Does MIB know you are publishing photos like this? :D

i work as a tech at a mazda dealership so i'll shell out the money to buy a stock one and try it out so if it fails or ***** up i don't care and can just throw it in the trash. it's a neat idea and i know would work if our stockers were metal but the whole plastic i just don't know if it'll hold up to a tap and the pressure from a adjuster nut. I'm replacing my stocker with a HKS SSQ i have. i have the HKS BOV i just haven't installed it yet cause i bought the brad new designed version from HKS the day it came out and didn't think about buying the recirc kit and it didn't come with it so next week i'm ordering it from ********** so maybe i'll just try it out on my stock one when i take it off. i'll let you know whats up but this post here is a great post and idea for a free mod that works

it does work BUT boost still falls off for me. it holds better but i still just went ahead and ordered a forge BPV

I'm waiting for Forge to come out with a silencer for the thing. It sounds like you're working in a blacksmith's shop.

You know that port to one side of the main valve on the stocker? That goes to the bottom of the piston that pulls the main valve open and seems to act as a damper (dashpot) to prevent slamming of the valve open or closed. From the descriptions and the youtube videos I have heard, i assume that the Forge BPV does not have this damping feature. Faster acting, but noisier.

Gives new meaning to the phrase, "Laying down the hammer."

I also like the new TXS valve I saw. They're known to be a bit quieter (the non-hybrid, full recirc models.)

Ahh, see now I love that sound. Pssssshhhhh, CLANK. I use it to get people's attention at lights or something (like if I saw another MS3 owner and wanted to toss him/her a wave).

Honest is doeset even bother me, with the windows up and the radio on i dont even hear it. I love the performance though.

Many OEM valves have this feature. In most that I've seen it is there to slow down transient response to eliminate jerkiness.

I did the heat and crush on my stock BPV and the butt-dyno says it pulls much stronger above 5500. I think I need to adjust my shift light upward now. :)

I recommend using a large socket on top of the BPV in the vise to improve the heat gun access and putting a piece of fuel line over the vacuum nipple to insulate it from the hot air. The fuel line over the vacuum nipple also guarantees clearance for the vacuum line after crushing.

Thanks for the suggestion and How-To.

ok i did this and tried it till i put my HKS BOV on. it worked great boost holds all the way to red line. i didn't even push it in that much about a 1/4" at the most like he said. well to bad it's getting removed soon for my HKS but it's all good. my HKS will be full recirc. so i'm wondering how loud it'll be with my COBB SRI that i have now. one little tid bit of info. let the valve cool down before releasing the vise. i did that the first time and it poped almost right back to stock. second time waited for it to cool down which took like 10 minutes and it didn't move at all.

I am with you. I can't wait to get a Forge BPV for the functionality and that sound. BPVs for the win!

Did this mod over the weekend along w/ the coil mod. Car seems to pull better, no stutter and pulls to redline.

I'm surprised mazda hasn't picked up on this and fixed it yet.

Will eventually buy a decent aftermarket valve though...
