Removed front bumper plastic grille...pics inside

Not bad, thats what u call going "commando" :). Just don't hit a bird on that area going 65 mph....believe me, it's like a baseball hitting your intercooler !

I suppose that could be possible if the bird was launching off the ground, but improbable since birds usually fly above our cars...oh man...haha(rofl)

Funning thing is that I have ran over a bird before. I told him not to fly away but as I was driving over him he must have tried to take off...that is all she wrote for hat poor little guy.

spray painting DOESN'T hurt the thermal efficiency unless you're putting like 5 coats of super heat paint on it. believe me, there have been huge discussions about that before on other forums. spray paint isn't thick.

How does it not affect the efficiency of the intercooler?? Its not that the paint is not thick??? Its the color you are putting over the aluminum cooler.. You go sit in the summer sun in a nice white t-shirt and tell me how you feel... Then do the same thing sitting in a black turtle neck, and tell me how you feel then? Intercoolers are made of Aluminum thats polished for a reason... they dissipate the heat alot quicker then steel and the polished finish does not attract heat... Covering that changes all of the characteristics.. Higher intake temps in the summer time = Loss of power...

Do you see my point?? If it didnt affect thermal efficiency then top drag cars would not be painting the underside of their intake Mani's white to reflect the heat....

I think it looks less refined without the grill. your car so ultimately is gotta be what you like , i get that you wanna show off the ic but at the expense of making the car look like a hacked project. I say leave it with the grill. just my opinion

Science lesson: Colors don't reflect heat, they reflect lightwaves. The intercooler is shadowed pretty well and will only be exposed to direct light if driving towards the sun when its only partially up/down.

LOL i ran over a cat before! it was like 3 years ago and it was dark as hell, Girlfriend kept telling me to pull over and see whatever was left!

Than how come when you wear a white t shirt its cooler and when you wear a black t shirt you are hotter?? Heat and light are totally relevent??? Your telling me that a light bulb doesnt give off heat? All light rays are is unused heat...

Actually, light is electromagnetic radiation...

The color of the object only really affects how much LIGHT something absorbs and turns into heat. This amount would be negligible at best on a FMIC that is shaded from direct sunlight for the most part...

I think if you ran a test of charge air temps between a setup with a painted intercooler and a setup with an unpainted intercooler with all other things being equal you'd see there is no real measureable difference.

This isn't something i'm pretending to know about. It is a fact. Heat and light are related because if something absorbs light then it turns to heat. Black absorbs more light, creating more heat. If a black and white object are in a hot but completely dark room they will be the exact same temperature. Light rays are not unused heat, they are different forms of energy. Part of the electricity of a light bulb turns to light the other part of that energy turns to heat.
