Okay, I know this has been discussed to death but I am wondering how many people experienced the smoke issue AFTER the fix of whatever they had to do. My car is smoking like a biatch and I'm stock with my cats still on. I want to know if I have to experience more of this crap after it's fixed. If I do then I'm sadly going to get rid of it.

It's kinda embarassing being told by people my car is on fire.(bang)

had my oil changed before I got back on the road from the holidays. 5 minutes on the highway, she's smokin ferociously. it's terrible. I putter back to house. car's vibratin, misfiring, CEL comes on. Life is not good. I'm PISSED!!! anyway, i end up disconnectin the battery, let everything reset. seems to run fine now. Still a concern though.

I use to release billows of smoke, like chimney style amounts. Well since i have replaced the turbo i havent had one ounce of smoke leak. Odd eh? And mazda tries to dodge the fact they produce a bad turbo. Silly Mazda. Ill be selling this thing as soon as i can. EVOX has my eye.

Just take the car in and have them replace the turbo. It can't be any worse than what you currently have..... they know about the issue, but haven't formally stepped forward to correct it. Mazda NA is simply waiting for the complaint and will address it at that time as it's a costly mistake on their end.

my car smokes. i sit it at idle for a minute or two and then rev it and bellows of smoke will come out. but it doesn't do it while driving. just builds up at idle and goes off after. seems like valve seals...putting the stock exhaust on and going to mazda to see what happens.

it the exhaust. my ms3 did the exact same thing with TBE.
i took it off and all the smoke stopped. it has never come back.
kinda pisses me off though. now i am stuck running just a mid pipe, cuz if i get rid of both cats it smokes. the TBE had a high flow cat in it BTW it wasnt catless. the bad turbo seals are just able to be seen with a free flowing exhaust. a turbo upgrade can fix it !!

i don't know. everything was perfect for a good period of time. i have a test pipe and cat back and it's been on since april of this year. the smoking started in about july maybe.

Took mine in on Wedendesday got back today with MAZDA saying the smoke is caused by bad turbo seals and they will be replacing the complete turbo. star smoking after about 6500 miles and after sitting for about 5minutes sometimes less. A friend has a speed3 and his has started doing the same. He is very knowledgable on this and is on this site regularly and has come up with a possible idea of bad batches of TURBOS. Let you know how she is running next week after being replaced

Im going to take my car in this week for that problem. I hope its fixed, otherwise ill take it in for a fix again, then for a fix again and the third time ill get my car lemoned. Ill go buy a bmw 335i:)

Hey, mine smokes, it started right after I put the test pipe on, and before the CAI. If I take it to the dealer should I install the original airbox? and the cat?

What should I do?

definitely the cat. but make sure it still smokes once its back on, because for some cars it does not smoke with the cat in place.

Yeah it never smoked with the cat... but how can the cat stop the smoking? the cat takes bad gases and turns them into "good" gases... not stop smoking... it is weird... and should I leave the CAI on? can they say, if it's the turbo, that the CAI caused it?

they can say anything they want, that doesn't make it true. your best bet is to have the car as stock as possible.

there are a couple theories about why the cat doesn't show smoke that the straight pipes do. first, the thought is that oil gets past the seals on the turbo easier because there is less back pressure on them. second you are exactly correct about the cat. it turns the "bad" smoke into "good" smoke, which makes it less visible to the eye because it removes the contaminants. some dealers are being very good about these, some are being dicks. so, return to stock, see if you still smoke, then go to the dealer. i guarantee they will give you crap if you go in with a modded exhaust and say "it didn't do this stock, but i still want you to fix it"

put a catch can on in line with the pcv to manifold hose. several members have found that to stop this issue entirely. its simple blow by, just like every other turbo car out there.

Wannabe.. thank you, I'll try to get it as stock as possible.

While that makes sense... then why is that when members get the turbo replaced it fixes the issue? Obviously the CC helps with the oil, but that's the oil going into the Intercooler, not going out the exhaust... I had a CooperS and I had the catch can to keep the IC clean.

But if replacing the turbo fixes that issue then that means the turbo is the problem and not oil passing by... you know what I mean?

but like several have seen.....
smoke with modded exhaust, then they revert back to stockm and the smoke stops, then it is clearly not a turbo seal issue.
a more free flowing exhaust will totally chane the backpressure characteristics of your car. that will effect the pcv system usuallly causing excessive blow by. i'm not saying that there are no bad turbos out there, because i'm sure there are, but i bet this will solve the issue for most who see smoke with mods.
