Been running open downpipe for about a week now. Does any one know if this will hurt the car at all? I tried doing a search on the subject but not to much info. By the way car pulls like a mother. No cel either

there was a thread on here where some guy ran an open dp and the his car went hawwire then stoppped running, he went to the dealer and the dealer said the open dp melted his wireing harness..?? be careful.

Open DP as in no exhaust...? Pipe ends after the second O2...?

Yea just a downpipe...No piping after that. I havent been having any problems. I fell a huge difference in power also.

I saw that as well but when i looked under the car i dont see any wires at all. So i dont see where wires can melt???

a pic or a sound clipof what the car sounds like would be awesome. Cause Im kinda interested. I know when I did this with my P5 for a week or so.. it sounded pretty awful.. well I guess more or less like a dragsters than anything.

How does your DP end...? Does it have a tip at the end directing the exhaust to the ground or just straight out...?

The issue with having an open DP pointing straight back is that the exhaust temperatures could be in the 900 degree range!!!

yeah your probably going to end up melting something underneath your car. i remember taht thread about the wire harness as well. the exhaust doesnt have adequate time to cool (like it would if it were traveling through an exhaust system.

i wouldnt recommend running an open DP for to long. but if you are at least have a tip welded pointing down, so your not blowing 900 degree exhaust on the underside of your car.

Does anyone know where this wire harness is located under the car. I looked all under there and all i see is heat sheids

running open downpipe is just like running a cutout. of course the cut out is angled down. but safety wise, i think you will be fine. im thinking about doing this as well....but with a cutout :)

Def. go for the downward tip. Not only do you have to worry about whats under the car remember there insulation and wiring inside your car that could possibly be damaged. Suck to be sitting in traffic and you smell burning and smoke starts pouring out from under your seat.

At the very least I would try to get a turndown tip on there to direct the heat to the ground! Foil tape won't do much of anything to redirect the exhaust flow I don't think. Works good for leaks when there easy to get to but that's about it!

I just have a corksport downpipe unmoddified. Why would the exhaust temp raise so much? and how is that bad?

the exhaust temp doesnt raise. it lowers as it moves through the pipes. try touching your header. then go touch the exhaust tip... which is cooler?

its bad because you can ruin the things underneath your car, that arent designed to be exposed to that kind of heat.

i had a open DP on my car for about two minutes turn that thing on and it sounded like a beast
