to all colder climate msp owners..

peajay, please update this thread when you find the solution. i am experiencing exactly what you are, only i've been experiencing it since before it got cold, like back in august! it's driving me nuts!!!!

i'm thinking i'll get time to clean it this weekend, and im not resetting anything because i know that once i do it will seem fine. i'd like to know asap if it worked, if it shows improvement in any way ill drop the battery and go from there.

just a bit of a shot in the dark but can anyone track this symptom with the change in the fuel mix from the gas station? there are people that say they have the problem modded or stock, so good chance its not the mods. Also the FCD or other EMS (piggy or other) will fix the issue or at least cover it up, so the problem would have to do with the either the measuring of the intake air flow or the pumping of fuel into the cylinder.

I have the same problem but I can't remember it happening before the gas co. changed the mix for winter. I can't say how it would have an impact on the A/F but if the cylinder failed to fire (though you'd probably get a CEL) you get the hiccup.

Aside from that don't forget the ECU dumps fuel in the cylinder when you mash the gas and just gets worse as it gets colder. If someone has this problem and has a wideband check the reading when it hiccups.

jeez way to long a post...LOL

it's not a hiccup and i get my gas from the same station everytime....it's full on fuel cut and it never happened when it was cold last year. my a/f's are reading fine and i have never felt anything that seemed like a misfire....
i really don't accept that this just 'happens' to all of our cars, there is a reason be it mods or lack of tune or whatever

Mine didnt do it yesterday when it was warmer. I noticed i didnt get this last year when the car was stock, so its probably repercussion's of me MODing the car and not having any type of tuning on the ECU. Going from 5.5psi to 9 is probably whats causing mine, im guessing its too much air for the fuel when it boosts so it just leans out. I dunno, im not a car expert, just trying to make sense of it.
What have u tried so far Peajay? Is yours still doing it now that its warmer?
Also, anybody that uses the JoeP FCD, is it safe? Im hoping its just like a fixed preset tune that lets your car know there is more air. Like a piggy-back AFC that cant be re-mapped. Am i close?

havent tried anything more than what i posted in the first thread. my rear sway bushing are starting to get super loud again so i have that too...would like to get it all done at once, but im not longer a mechanic so getting to a lift and my supplies arent as readily found as they once used to be, i'm still gonna try and at least clean my maf tomorrow. havent really pushed it lately so i cant say the the slightly warmer weather is doing anything to help it...

the AFC is nothing like a piggy back. it just a simple valve. I cant remember how it was hooked up but I remember there being 2 wires and I think it hooks into the vac lines. you control via a allen screw on top. if you put one in I guess you should have a wide band a/f gauge just to make sure everything is copacetic. what it does is raise your fuel cut off to a higher level. so that increases your chances of zoom zoom boom. like I said I ran one for a long time, but my block is the exception to all rules on the fsde. if fuel cut really bothers you, you should probally go with an SS AFC. it is the safe and less expensive way to go if a standalone is too expensive. also I think a rising rate FPR is recomended. I think they are like 200 bucks. plus the 75 for the FCD. so when all the cost is added up the SS AFC is probally a good thing

Whats a rising rate FPR ???? What does the JoeP FCD do to your car to compensate the boost? I dont wanna zoom zoom boom. How do u knw your block is a non contender for the boom?? Sorry so many questions, I like learning!!! I am leaning towards the SS AFC, tax time is coming up!

Also, No Fuel Cut Today!!!

yeah i did and i was really excited cause i thought it worked but we were having warmer temps (40+) over the last few days and i could thrash on it and get full boost smoothly.....however, today (in the 30's) i got fuel cut again. So i suppose its just not mapped into the stock ecu how to compensate with the extra flow im getting from the exhaust (even though i dont really believe that). But i also experienced 3 misfires, i believe they are completly unrelated and do not happen in boost, more at a cruise. they are small and i barely noticed the first one..it actually felt like a shift in an automatic, a hesitation and kick back in, but i couldnt get my eyes on my vac gauge in time to tell what it was. and then it happened back to back at a cruise and i could see the fluctuation on my vac gauge. So i may be having a sick baby here soon if it keeps up.
So for now im calling the fuel cut totally irrational because i'm still not buying the fact that a turbo back exhaust should give me fuel cut. but such it is being an msp owner i suppose..
-le sigh-

ever sicne it got cold my motor seamed to "bounce" or "jump" and lost most of the power for a cupple of seconds, it is usually at startup, but once i went to the mall, went inside for a min, came out. My hear gauge say was was warmed up, and it did it. im prob going to get a better upgrade of the WGA than the stock one.

well, my car is stock, and I'm getting this crap. From everything I'm reading on here, it sounds like my wga is bad. I don't have any guages though, so I can't tell for sure what's happening to my boost when I hit fuel cut. Gonna try to test my wga before throwing money at it. Thanks for the reply.

MSP's just fuel cut in cold weather, its the bad factory tune... makes it feel like it is running lean because of the dense air. Nothing to do with your Wastegate. get a joep FCD or ss afc or a EMS, Or stay out of boost.

how easy is the SplitSecond one is to control, im not good with tuning =, never had the tools required to tune a motor, but it says connects with a laptop, what does it use to connect to a laptop. (i have a laptop i could use to tune) Cause if that does fix my stumble in boost, at about 4000 RPM's ill buy it.
