TRZ Dog Bone Review Plus Vidz

Well, as some would know; I've installed my TRZ Dog Bone motor mount today that I got from UPS from www.protegegarage.com

All I can say is, this thing rocks!! I got the Delrin bushing in my mount. That's the stiffest one available. I'll tell you, this thing vibrates when you first crank her up. But after that, you'll only notice the vibrations when you go into first gear. After that, no vibrations. You can hear things in the car vibrate as well when you shift into first also. It's bearable, and plus it makes the car sound menacing at low RPMs. I'll post a vid here sometime tomorrow just to show everyone how loud the vibrations are. I believe after a few hundred miles or so, the bushing will set in, and there will be less vibrations. I'll let you all know with an update a week or so from now.

I can say this though, my car puts that power to the ground now. I'm sure there is at least a few more ftlbs of trq getting to the wheels now with the stiffer mount. When riding shot gun in my car, before the mount; I could feel my head jerk back. But when driving, I didn't. Now that I have the mount; accelerating makes my head jerk back, WHILE driving. I guess all the flex went from my stock motor mount to my neck joints!! lol I can't wait to get a chance to take my car to the track one day...lol

For those that want this mount or are looking into getting one, I would recommend the TRZ Dog Bone to you. Although if you want less vibrations, go with the non-Delrin version. I'm not sure how much difference there are between the two. But either one I'm sure will net you a big difference when installed.

Well, I think I'm going to look for a neck brace as my next mod....gonna need it when mashin the pedal to the metal!! lol

Thanks Ken, and to TRZ for a great product!

(drunk)Oh, by the way, I'm going to the store, and this will be my first time driving it with the wifey in the car.... I'll let you know what happens....

But do you like it? (ugh)(huh)(burnout)

I'm lovin it!! lol

As soon as I pull out the drive way... my wife looks over at me, and I can't help but have a smirk on my face.... she's laughing asking me what I did to my car.... lol

I told her, oh, just installed a stiffer rear motor mount. She said, "So that's why you wanted to take your car instead.....and she just started laughing, becuase I started laughing." She didn't say anything else, she just keeps teasing me saying, must be nice! lol

Anyways, the mount seems to be setting in nicely. There is less vibration than when I first drove it; and that was like a good 40 miles ago.... :-)

I can't help but say that this thing picks up like it was meant to, with a neck jarring pull. Anyone who gets this motor mount will be satisified. I know I am. I just can't help that this thing sounds meaner with this installed, especially down shifting, it growls more.... I guess you have to feel and hear it to understand. Tomorrow, I'll get a video feed on what it sounds like, although you may not know how much vibration is there, hopefully the way the camera "stutters" when I start my car will give you an idea. Remember, I got the stiffest mount, Delrin I believe. If you don't want the stiffest ride, go with the poly bushing, you won't be disappointed!!

I am actually really glad you did this install/write up on the DB MM. I always just hear about one other type (stash)

Ok dudes, and dudets, I have here a couple of vids I took to try to share with you all the cabin noise with the new Delrin motor mount. Again, you can only hear vibrations at start up, and when going into first gear. You'll feel it at idle too, but its like a cycle or something.

Like....idle idle idle vibration.....idle idle idle idle vibration.....idle idle idle idle vibration. Does that make any sense? lol

Anyways, here are the vids. I used my digital camera, so the sounds of the vibration aren't heard too well. But you get the idea.

The first vid is about 2 and a half minute long. I just go around the block real quick.

The second vid is about 4 minutes and 40 seconds or so long. I needed to get some fossil fuel so I used that as an excuse to make another vid. You all can ignore the laste 20-30 seconds when I get to the last stop light.... the video ends there since I ran out of memory on my camera. You'll see a red Prowler, although brief, pretty neat.

I hope this sheds some light if any on the Delrin motor mount. Or if you live in the SoCal area, and don't mind coming to the Mira Mesa area, I'll take you for a spin in my Speed3.. lol

Some dude on a "white van" forum is probably posting about his ms3 kill right now. :p

lol!! haha, i think i "read" that post! (bowdown)

lol

I didn't even push it, maybe this vid was a poor example? (nailbyt)

So, this dog bone simply reduces the engine movement...?
Are there any other brands? I know I could do a search...(thought)

What does it do for wheel hop...? Not that I have experienced any yet.
But I did drive aggressively the other day and heard a thump when I shifted into 2nd and disengaged the clutch...the little squiggly line warning light did light up. Is this normal for a FWD...?
Till this day, I've only driven RWD cars...

Street Unit offers one... Looks more like a stock one, but alot sexier, but I read in other forums that for some particular reason the Tranny Mount has been getting loose, even after the recall work and using red Loctite, when using aftermarket motor mounts (happens too with stock mount, but most seen posts deal with aftermarket ones). Something to consider, maybe the darn engine is supposed to move around like that. (dunno)

I think its just me. I put it in again the other night to go to the strip. I tightened down my cobb filter before putting it in, then after about 20 minutes of driving, stopped to check the filter, it was loose but still on, so I tightened it down again with the mount in.... and after about 100 more miles of driving its still on there tight.

This is not a common issue, but I would just be a little more careful with this thing in.

btw, after breaking it in, I am totally loving this thing now.

Okay, I have a question....if I'm not into racing would it be a mistake to get the Delrin mount instead of the Poly? Although I'm not into racing, I'm into performance....I wan't my speed3 to reach it's potential and so I want to get quality parts for it....I would hate to get the Poly because it designed for the street and then come to find out that the stock mount was just as good....

btw, cool video clips...the day was beautiful as it usually is in Southern California....I don't know about that devil music you were playing though...haha, jk.

The poly is just slightly softer than the delrin... Not much difference in performance. If you are not into racing I would suggest not to get the delrin...but its up to you. I race my car at the strip and autocross and find the poly more than capable for racing. Seriously though, the poly is one of the stiffest mounts you can get other than the delrin. Picture the delrin is a 10 on the stiffest mounts rating scale, poly is a 8-9...where as stock is 0...

I'd say you would be very happy with the poly; its the one thats the most popular according to Ken at PG.

THanks bro....I may just as well go with the Poly....my car is already stiff as it is with the eibach sportlines I have on there...
