cams in a MS3

I had this idea because i've had nothing but muscle cars through my family and i always loved the stuttered idle that comes with cams....i was wondering if anyone knew if they made cams for the MS3 and im not looking for anything rediculous just something to give it that extra "umph" lol

cams are different for forced induction applications as opposed to NA. with forced induction, you don't want any overlap. I'm sure someone is manufacturing cams with higher lift and possibly more duration (someone who knows more can chime in), but I'm not sure it will change the sound or the idle all that much, as the concentration will be on intake and exhaust in much higher RPMs. just shootin from the hip on this one, as I am new to forced induction also.

problem with cams for FI cars is it is give and take, you will gain some high end hp but lose the low end/off the line power....or you can have em ground for the opposite, its very hard to find the exact lift/duration and cam timing to balance that out and get both high rpm power and not lose it in the lower end.

Im not saying its a bad idea, the hks cams and others for evos can make a pretty big gain, but again they usually do that for Big numbers and dont mind a little extra lag.

yeah those are things i figured i'd conflict with but i knew someone would kno more about it but i'll look into it more

I doubt you will get a stuttered idle from a 4 banger - regardless of what cam profile you put on the thing...

Have you heard a SRT-4 with HKS cams?

Back on topic though, have you check out the Cosworth cams for the 2.3 focus. I'm not sure if the fit, but the cam gears will. it's a start though.

I've already looked into a set of cams for the DISI motor. My leads have found that the cost would be close to 1300$ for about 10-12whp.

Price to gain ratio isnt worth it, unless you have deep pockets and every mod out there.

Well, Like i sid earlier, the cam gears will work, so there some start for some caming timing. But the main tool would to be able to remove or adjust the VCT though.

cams would not likely add a lot of PEAK HP but i would be willing to bet you would have a HUGE mid-range gain. the key to making an awesom turbo cam it to deep the lift about the same as stock, and add a little duration to the exhaust lobes. cuz what drives a turbo....... EXHAUST !! the more exhaust flow you can shove out of the motor, the faster your turbo will respond.

If anyone lives near the San Diego area, im sure Crower Cams would be interested in doing some prototypes. They are pretty cool and have helped out the Lightning and Cobra community with their cams. the MS3 would make some real power with a new set of cams and a ported head.

My 98 Eclipse GST cammed pretty well too. It had HKS 272 Exhaust & Intake cams. Not sure of the gains from just the cams though. Cause they were in the car when I bought it. I loved the engine lobe. I pulled up on many a person and they just looked over and gave me some weird ass look, it was great.

my srt4 sounded nice with cams... a little studdering and lope.... All I had were the 2.0 regular neon cams, and it had a small amout of mid range gain.

What could you accomplish if you could control the cam timing?

At WOT and high RPM, the cam timing is fully retarded (i.e. least amount of overlap).

Where at exactly in SD? I have no problem volenteering.
