alright first of all i just changed my oil but i put what jiffy lube always has put in and that is penzoil 5w30 and its not synthetic. my idle when i start it goes up to 2000 and down to about 100 200? should i change to full synthetic or what? and if its not the oil that has anything to to with it then i dont know what is goin on

Unless you topped of the engine to the valve cover with oil I can't see or imagine the oil having anything to do with your idle. There has to be a loose or cracked vac line or loose connector of some sort. Did it start doing the odd idle after you chaned the oil, or did jiffy lube change it for you, or maybe it was sort of there before? I've seen cars with 12qts of oil so it wouldn't surprise me that they just kept adding.

you put 4 and a half courts in if im not mistaken the mazdaspeed runs 3 and a half courts thats one court too much but that will most likely cause oil leaks as for your idle i would imagine a vac leak and oil wise it is important to run fully synthetic because it has less tendency to break down when it is heated rapidly and the mazdaspeed has a oil and water cooled turbo which would cause your oil to break down but if you have been running regular oil you need to start off by running synthetic blends for at least 3 oil changes recomend 5 then go to synthetic which will show you if you have any leaks

^^^ 3.6L w/ the filter (assuming you're using the filter for the Protege and not the larger for the 626 which some people use).

4 1/2...? it supposed to be like 3.9 if i rember correctly.

That is definately correct...4.5 is a little much...i duno if that will mess with idle, but i would drain some before you over lubricate your seals and gaskets (it can ruin them). I would check your plugs...everytime someone has this idle jumping and then dropping and jumping and dropping 8 out of 10 times it's time for a new set of plugs or if you just changed the plugs they might not be gapped right.

Yeah, I just realized I was thinking US quarts but either way I was wrong. According to the lubrication section in the online shop manual (http://protege5.ugly.net/01-11.PDF) you are right, which comes out to 3.5 and 3.7 US qts. My bad...

yeah i always confuse the quarts and liters but fortunately the conversion is minimal so even if you read it wrong and put too much in, you only put in like 2/10ths of a liter more

Yeah, I put 3.6 qts in for my last change but I burn a little oil so I'm constantly monitoring the oil level and adding some in. I pretty much keep it so it's at the "F" on the dipstick.

okay well im not retarded ive changed oil before of course i used the right filter! i called mazda and they said not to run full synthetic until about 90,000-100,000 miles! and also even with the 4.5 quarts its the perfect amount! it reads right on the line of full.
