iPod fastening ideas? MS3

So, I connected my iPod, its all fine and dandy, but I can't keep the darn thing handy for skipping songs while driving without having it unsecured, prone to flying all over the place (I am a spirited driver). I searched the Apple store to no avail. Is there some gadget that anyone here uses? I was thinking of a sleeve/case with velcro or something. Any help/ideas would be appreciated.

If you don't have NAV then the little slot to the right of the shifter is a common place for putting an Mp3 player. I keep our zen vision: M there, or my Treo and they don't slide around much. Another option would be to get a silicone "gel" skin for the ipod. I have one on my Treo and I can actually leave it sitting upright leaning against the ashtray door (while closed) in front of the shifter and it doesn't move.

I got some traction pads from the Cingular store near my house. Just stick right on the back, and it holds in place just fine.

Shouldn't be skipping... even under the most rigorous driving conditions. Sounds like there might be a problem with your Ipod.

Anyway... assuming you're plugging it into the aux jack in your center armrest, through a newskin case on it (this will help it grip and obviously protect it) and wedge it between your passenger seat and center console.

:D .. he wasnt talking about songs skipping but rather that he wanted it handy so he could hit the "skip" button....I had to read it twice as I thought the same as you the first time

If you dont care about looks you could buy a long velcro strip and wrap it around the armrest and tuck the ipod in...

Ahhh... my bad.

See, that's the problem with high capacity mp3 players. When you've got 20+GB worth of storage, you tend to just throw anything and everything in. This makes it harder to find what you're looking for and, if in shuffle mode, ensures you'll be skippin through a lot of s***. (I do it to so I'm just as guilty)

By contrast, the Nano I've got has mayben 50 songs on it at a time. I mainly use it for workin out/jogging/biking and can't be bothered with skipping through tracks to find what I'm looking for. that's why I take 10 minutes (at the most) to customize the track listing ahead of time.

If I had my ipod connected via aux to my car, I'd probably invest the time to create some custom playlists (thus minimizing/eliminating the need to constantly go into ADD mode and skip through every other song).

If you'd rather constantly skip through the billions of songs in order to find one that suits your mood... I'd figure out a way to mount it flush with the center console. They make ipod holders that are designed to hang out somewhere on the dash... but trying to hit a button (let alone scroll) with it mounted there while driving is frustrating. Having it mounted (parallell to the road) on the console not only is more ergonomically comfortable but the solid backing will make it easier.

So like I said... get a nuskin silicone case. That material rocks... you won't need to mess with bad velcro. it'll stay put on your console for sure.

Yeah, the silicone cas on my Treo is probably the same thing. I drove around with it on the dash of a jeep (big and flat) for 30 minutes and it didn't budge.

Thanks guys, problem solved! Velcro FTW.Went to Wal-Mart, bought a 9$ leather wrapping case and some velcro, stuck a small rough piece of velcro on the back of the case, and a hairy piece on top of the compartment by the emergency brake (cupholders inside), and voila! No more flying iPod.

I think that sounds like the way to go. I have to ask (since you specified...): why the rough piece on the ipod and the fuzzy piece on the console? I usually put the (soft) fuzzy piece on my device and the (scratchy) rough piece on the mounting surface. That way I can put the device in my pocket and whatnot without it getting stuck to everything.

Not a biggie or anything, just wondering.

you are right. I had them mixed up. The scratchy part is in the car, while the fuzzy part is in the 'pod.
