Hey guys,

I received confirmation from TWM Performance that they are planning to produce a short shifter for our 5's. I know SR now sell one but I strongly believe in TWM products. I've used them on my other cars. Since I always fear buying new products and being disppointed with performance and/or quality, this is good news to me.

They're interessted in knowing exactly how many 5 owners from the forums would be interessted in their product. Please vote or leave comments and I will forward them the link.

Thanks.

Mike.

i have no experience with twm products on the 5, but i have a twm short shifter on my msp and it is an AMAZING piece of work. quality is great, and the customer service was even better. i would imagine anyone who buys from them will be happy !

Shucks, I had an '84 Corolla Liftback with short-shifter once. How I wish I could have something that shifts as smoothly as that car. And I couldn't get one now coz I have an auto tranny Mazda5. (hand)

As much as I enjoy driving stick, I wish I could have purchased a manual Mazda5. Unfortunately the car was purchased mainly for my wife who unfortunately can't drive stick....If it were a manual I would be the first to get a short shifter as all my previous cars were modified.(boobs2)

Do like I did...force her to learn! (rlaugh) Seriously though...it's all she wants to drive now. I was very patient teaching her which made her enjoy learning.

From what I can see, the only NO responses are from auto tranny owners. Makes sense. I agree with mspHtown, great products and great service. And that is what makes all the difference.

(smash) I tried...many...many...many...times...(crazy) But in the end she finds it easier to drive auto....sigh....

Yeah...I guess the no's had no choice but to disagree...I'm not sure but when I was looking at the car the dealers didn't have many manuals available...(scratch) but people who buy the manual, want the manual for a reason...back when I was single I only bought manuals knowing I would modify my vehicle...some of us have it in our blood I guess....so being that almost 30% of those who voted so far would like a short shifter I think that's a pretty good ratio considering the number of Mazda5's sold with the manual transmission....:)

How would it differ from the SRMotorsports shifter, which itself is likely farmed out to someone else?

We have not actually started the project yet so I can't say exactly what the differences would be. I can say however that all of our designs are unique and we do not simply copy other existing products. We start from scratch and design parts that we feel achieve the best possible results.

Thanks,

Kevin

Are people voting no because they have automatics? If you don't have a 5spd that question wasn't directed at you. Way to make it look like there is no interest in a quality product.

I know one big diffrence they normally have is adjustably. I was cheap and waited for someone to get rid of a B&M in favor of a TWM for my other car. I have heard nothing but great reviews about their products.

Actually, we're envious for you manual tranny owners because I had a car with a short-shifter before and boy, is it a joy to row through the gears. But having an auto Mazda5, that's not gonna happen.

I would buy one for a reasonable price. Say, under $130. Currently have a shift knob from kartboy.com and would like some firmer shift points.

No. Wife is the primary driver, the OEM one makes the Mazda5 an F1 for her already ;)

Well, let me be the first to say HELL YES. If you make it , Kevin, I will buy one! If for no other reason than to say that I had something to do with a part being available when someone wanted it. And TWM kicks ass BTW, I had one in my Elantra (long time no see Wytchdctr) and a friend has one in his Tiburon they are well worth the money.

I'm not sure a short-shifter would help much.
Unless it replaces some of the cables that form the linkage.
Have any of you put a short shifter on another Mazda that uses the cable linkage?
