The pennies have been saved the MS3 is mine!
Ok so we know how the MS3 stacks up against the hot hatches thnks to car and drivers latest review. BUt my question is how does it stack up to the new evo? Here is what I see so far.

MS3 advantages:

Direct injection
6 speed
price

EVO advantages:

no balance shaft
better valve train
AWD

This is a tough choice for me since I am not sure what to buy.

honestly, the only thing we have on the new EVO is price. we cannot out-run, out-drive, or out-style them to save our lives...^_^;

...but then again, for like 10k more, they'd BETTER kick our asses! ;)

(iagree)

More importantly, after doing research, test drive both and see which car suits you the best.

Tickets. Evo is a cop magnet. Blame it on the huge friggin wing.

MS3 looks like plenty of other hatchbacks out there. Stealthy-like.

i'd say until the evo 10 officially comes out it's impossible to tell. it's just magazine racing until then because the evo is an entirely new car. until its in people's driveways and people put some miles on them it's still somewhat of a mystery. its nanny systems might inhibit fun, its engine could be unreliable, the interior could rattle itself apart, any number of bad things could happen that don't show up on paper

odds are another advantage the evo will have is aftermarket support if that's important to you. the MS3 will also have the advantage of more storage if that's important to you

Not a cop magnet, nor a ricer magnet ;-)
Evo X
4wd
newer car !
EVO, everyone knows what it is !!!

the aftermarket for any of the MazdaSpeeds is not that of any of the evo's... considering your on a forum you either love your car to death and want to talk bout it and them in general or want to mod it...

Your views are going to change soon about the MS3 aftermarket. What many fail to realize is that the fuel system is whats holding us back. I cant give out anymore info other than, a year from now, 11 sec MS3's are going to be common. As far as that new evo is concerned, its heavier and wont be running 12.5s stock like the rags said they would.

The new evo is actually extremely disappointing compared to the old evo's.. slower, heavier, not that much more horsepower... A lightly modded ms3 wont have that big of a problem with them.
I'm not sure if the new evo is like the old one, but after 2nd gear, it was pretty dead...

Two completely different animals. Personally, I like the way the mazda looks, and I LOVE the interior of my mazda. Sure, the evo has a few ponies, a few pounds, and an AWD system on the mazda, but lets be realistic here, the only place its really going to outshine the mazda is on the track.

As far as a fun daily driver goes, give me the speed 3. Its more practical IMO and while it won't decimate all on the track, you could very easily take it out for a weekend and hang with cars that cost FAR more.

If you absolutely have to have the best of the best, fastest car on the road, then a FWD car isn't for you.

If you want something that you can zip around in, hang with some faster cars, and still fit two kids and some groceries in, the speed3 is the best.

Of course I am biased towards the mazdaspeed3, but both cars are factory turbo, and are going to have lots of potential for being absurdly fast, the evo is just better at putting the power to the ground.

If you were to ask a buddy of mine, he'd say F the evo, get a 3000gt, they look better and are more fun to drive, so who knows, just get the car that you like the most.

I can agree with this list pretty much. Other than the storage part. I don't plan on storing any car I get really I will probly be driving my car all the time.

WOW! A very clandestine post we have here!

I was looking pretty hard at the Evos before I bought my MS3. I even went and testdrove an Evo 9 at my local Carmax.

The car was nice, certainly fast, the spoiler grew on me quickly too! (it's much less of an eyesore from the driver's seat)

The X is a whole new car, but unless Mitsubishi royally ***** up it'll probably be better than the 3 in virtually every way performance-wise. It'll also probably be $13,000 more (than the MS3 sport)! About 60% more!

To me the combination of all the advantages didn't outweigh the price difference.

The weight issue with the new one is extemely dissapointing I concur.

From A practicality point of veiw theu seem about equal the Evo would bew nice in the winter with the AWD but the MS3 would also be OK in the winter with some 16s.

The Price issue is a stickly one. That is why I REALLY wish they would bring the RS model over to the US. I mean the thing costs the equivlent of $26,000 in yen over there. Sounds like a bargain to me.
