for the record, guys...middle class = primarily white collar wage-based workers. that covers a LOT of ground. the upper class only covers about 1% of the population, so even people in the hundreds of thousands of dollars in annual household income can very easily be considered upper middle class.

$200k/year will likely mean only about 120k-130k take home. take from that all the random ass expenses that come with being a medical professional, the insane cost of housing, huge college loans, and i think that you will find it's much less than you would think it is. obviously, this is a lot better off than many people are, but it's not as ridiculously rich as some people make it out to be.

when it comes down to it, unless you ACTUALLY have money to burn, spending 100k+ on a car is simply not a smart financial choice. just because you can technically "afford" it, doesn't mean that it's the right thing to do. kudos to Loose for knowing the value of money. i am familiar with the sacrifices that people in the medical field have to make in order to get where they are, and i have nothing but respect for their work and the rewards they reap. in the end, you're definitely only as rich as you allow yourself to be. overspending your budget is VERY easy to do no matter what your income level.

Lets face it guys, THEY base us on our income, not on how we spend our money... in this case, under the six figure mark is middleclass....its up to you on how you blow your money away :-)

Being over the 6 figure mark definately does not put you into 'upper class', you can't just draw the line there.

There are alot more factors that go into what "THEY" are taxing us on that income. A single household income of 100k is hardly upperclass when there are 4 kids living off it.

true but just realize that single mothers raise 4 kids off minimum wage. not a joke

I know I could take enough cash out of the bank tomorrow to buy myself an STi cash, but having it earning money in the bank is more valuable to me than having a car depreciating in the garage. If I have money to burn I am investing it in my property. Adding value to my home (new siding / windows / kitchen) is only going to increase the value of my property. That's why I still drive my paid off protege. I can afford a better car, but I would rather have my money working for me instead of working for a car.

My parents, made under 35k combined my entire life. We had a nice house in a nice neighborhood, a reliable car in the driveway, my sister and I still got to do gymnatics and horseback riding lessons. It's all about money management, they now have a 14+ acre bayfront horse farm. Thier property value is over 1.5 million. Basicly equivalent to 40 years of thier combined income. They will retire on investments and live better than most of us because of how they made thier money work for them. I'd love to be in thier shoes when I am in my 50's, not having a benz in the driveway brings me closer to that.
you know 4 kids living that kind of money is atleast middle class
go to other countries and see what people live from you should complain about this kind of things
i came from one of those countries and i used to live like that people live of 6 family members having a 30k income for a year or less and believe me you'll say its cheaper there but would u pay for a coke cane 2 -3 dollars
maybe appartments are cheap but food is expensive and taste like crap
so i believe there money managment is important but more important wise spending of that money and trying to get everything needed but some families cant afford everything needed such as food and medical care and next thing u know you might lose your family with a mafia and gang activities and government and cops is another mafia
so take that 100k down there and youll live like a king

minimum wage is not $30k/year trust me, and that is not middle class! it may not be your third world scenario you described, but middle class is not being so poor you can only afford to buy some clothing and food..forget about housing.

i think people are more or less being respectful so far, if someone has a specific issue, let me know and ill check it out. im keeping an eye on it, but for now i think keeping it open is fine

no specific issues, everyone is good. its just a dumb thread, that is nothing but an argument instigator as i see it. i just see no good

besides it would be more informative set up as a poll ;)
