As title says, does it mean the first or second 02 sensor? My reference chart does not specify.

Thanks, Jeff

What is the "P" code? Is it a P0137? Thats a rear sensor. Check the resistance of the heater circuits with sensors unplugged. If one is open, then you found your problem.

ya i thought it read p00037 dont remember a 1 in there. I will test the resistance and get back to you

P0037: HO2S Heater Control Circuit Low (Bank 1, Sensor 2)

That's what I get with my software. So I would say it's the second sensor.

Hi group my buddy just checked my Protege5 with his diagnostic and it read the same p0037 h02s heater control circuit low bank 1 sensor 2 can anyone help me out, as I've mentioned before I'm sort of an old guy just pissed that the stupid check engine light is on. I cleaned the EGR valve and thought that was it but now the check engine light is back. drives me nuts can any explain how I can check this sensor or where it might be? Thanks guys... young guys rule...

the 2nd o2 sensor is the last sensor you will see after the converter, it's sticking out of the exhaust pipe.
to test:
find the connector it runs to
disconnect
with the car running (be careful o2 sesnors get very hot while the car is running)check for voltage between the 2 wires (i hope ours are 2 wire connectors tho i have a sneaking suspecion they are 4 wire connectors.......regardless)
it should fluctuate rapidly between 0-1 Volt.
if it does not you have a bad 02 sensor.

Having the same code problems, thanks for the instructions.

Hmm, try and find the wiring schematic. I mean, you could go through with a volt meter, find a good ground somewhere and then check each wire and if none of them fluctuate or fluctuate slowly or what not then you have a bad O2. I'd image that would work the same tho im not 100% on it and have never done it myself.

Hi all,
Just had the same code
P0037-H02S Heater Control Circuit Low (Bank 1 Sensor 2)
I replaced the front sensor. The light went off after I reset.
Then, when i went to the store a few minutes ago, it was back on again.
could this be the other sensor ? or did I replace the wrong one?

More than likely it is the other sensor. I would go ahead and replace it anyway purely from an age perspective. You did replace the wrong one, but it'll be good to have two new O2 sensor to work with.

Can anyone post your results from trying this? I have the same code and don't want to replace the wrong sensor. Thanks!

sensor two identifies the rear o2 sensor. the one connected to the header through the heat shield is number one. the one connected to the first cat after the header is the second o2 sensor.

I got that, thanks! I am wondering about the testing procedure to make sure the correct sensor is being replaced. Sounds like the rear one is a 4-wire.
