zoom zoom boom question

03 msp Black Mica oh the sparkles they so pretty
i have read a lot on the msp blowing up when running higher boost levels and also at stock levels. one thing that has not been said (might have been just might have missed it) is what rpm was being ran when the boom takes place... before i had my msp i had a 04 eclipse in which i blew the 6cly n/a engine just by redlining it. could these zoom zoom boom's be avoided by keeping below redline?? if that is the problem????
Just Wondering.

subbing as i too am interested. What rpm's have ya'll popped at?? i know that JDM sam told me that it's the high revs that kills these engines -- they don't like it so much. So any added boost or bad tunes will bring it close to the danger zone, but maybe it's just the high revving action that gives the final hurrah. I also read in maximum boost something about as you go higher linearly on the tach, the engine stress (we will call that Popping Power) goes up exponentially. So like at 6000rpm, engine stress would be ~TWICE what it is a 5000rpm!

the danger is mostly in bad tunes and high boost numbers on stock internals. redlining is just the straw that breaks the camels back in most cases. i always recommend forged internals for higher boost and good tunings for any mods. these cars may be turbocharged stock, but they are still just stock.

+1 on the high rpms.

I was never a redliner to say. the powerband isn't as strong at 6gs. I popped mine at around 2500 in second gear.

With the weak rods the engines are also prone to blow at high load levels such as Speed1016's. Lower revs, but under a lot of load will stress the rods more than high RPM. Usually the higher RPMs cause more problems with rod bearings than the motor trying to turn itself inside out.

mine popped way past redline. my actuator was stuck and i was runnin godly amounts of boost. i was a newbie. it boosted so much that it went fuel cut, then took off and my boost gauge read around 23 psi. was in first gear as well, nailed it, boom, and then dead car.

holy s*** you're never driving my car.

Tell me about it, never let that guy drive... That must have been one crazy ride, I get a big kick in power as the car starts to lean out. I know where that is so I try to just let it happen and ease of the gas arround there. 5k+ in about second will do it for me, I know it can blow there that's where the lean spot was on the dyno. Oh yeah by the way I'm running MPI with stock injectos so that may not apply to most.

well i got 100,000kms of street abuse and blackzoomzoom got 200+ qm passes out of a stock msp running 250+whp shifting at rev limiter providing you are paying constant attention to everything. When I say constant I mean checking and rechecking everything all the time and having a properly setup system. I believe stock msp whp record is like 267whp though blkzoomzooms times indicated he was running even higher I believe. Others crank boost up without proper planning and pop pretty quick.

Another thing you have to consider is lifetime of the motor. It might put down 260whp but for how long kinda thing. Most consider 200-200whp all day long fun. 250+ you have to really be paying attention.

then clearly there was something wrong with it.

7400RPM all day long for me, just dont go around corners like that without a awr oil pan.
