hey guys i have been trying to find out how to retard the timing on my msp and i still dont know how, can any of you guys help me out?

first of all, why do you want to retard the timing?

second, you will most likely need full engine management if you want to mess with the timing.

If you want to just retard timing, J&S safeguard sounds like a good option as pulls timing automatically.

i believe MSD and crankcams also makes a unit that pulls a certain degree of timing you set per amount of boost it sees.

other ems units usually control fuel and timing ie. greddy emanage, unichip, microtech, haltec, aem.

yea that sounds dumb as fawk. most EMS will be able to control timing with a tune and the car will react nicely. Just retarding the timing to run more boost would be pretty bad.

Less timing with more boost will make your car SLOWER! I make more on 7psi than an MSP ECU'd car makes on 10-12 because of timing.

i concur. and advancing it too much can lead to detonation, correct?

Yes, but it depends on a number of factors. Compression of pistons, octane, boost, air temp, etc. We advanced my timing on the dyno so much that power started to fall off, and it never knocked once. My motor is pretty knock resistant.

listen to the masters....they are wise beyond their years...and dont ghetto rig your car cause it will break and you will be sorry! Retarding timing to add more boost is retarded....

ahaha. you made a funny. retarding is retarded. ..probably not as funny as i just perceived it but hey!(smash)

So why do you want to retard the timing to run more boost? Just so the needle goes higher on your gauge?

I think the OP doesnt realize how nicely his MSP will respond to some advanced timing with the correct mods and just has his "Boost goggles" on (they are like beer goggles...but for boost).
