OEM Bose Audio + iPod Connector ... Cost?

Hello all,

New CX-7 owner here. I love it. One thing I regret is not getting the Bose Audio system. Waddyagonnado?

At any rate, I was wondering how much it would cost to purchase and install an OEM Bose Audio system for the CX-7 (is this even possible) PLUS their iPod connector? If so, does anyone know the breakdown in cost?

BOSE
1) $$$ Parts
2) $$$ Labor

iPod Connector
1) $$$ Parts
2) $$$ Labor

Does anyone have experience with this, and has anyone gotten any good deals on installation?

Many thanks and safe driving all.

Hello!

I just installed the iPod connector with my Bose System so I can reply on that part.

Adapter: $125.00 for www.therpmstore.com. No shipping cost. Full access to wheel commands, iPod, stereo, the all 9 yards.

Labor: 10 clips to pull, 4 screws to remove, 1 plug to... plug... I did it myself following a tuto that somebody on the forum left. Cost $0.

About remplacing the Bose... I don't know but listerning to my iPod in my new car... Priceless ;o))

Just do your own aftermarket, or have someone install it for you - it would sound better and be cheaper than trying to get someone to install an oem bose system.

you're probably right. i was wondering how the install would work since the speakers on the inside doors (front and passenger) seem integrated into the lower portion of the inner doors (as opposed to popping out).

i was wondering how that is going to work...

you have to remove the whole door panel to get to them, its not that hard. I did mine over the weekend and replaced the door speakers. Theres a few screws and a bunch of plastic clip thingies.

There is a post on here with some pictures to where the screws are. I dunno where though. After you remove the screws, basically you just lift up on the top part where it kinda "curves" over the top edge of the door, and pull towards you "gently" the plastic clips will begin to pop out.

Really though the speakers in the cx-7 sit so low in the car it makes for bad sound with the windows down if you are going above like 25. Speakers on the dash or upper door would help a bunch. I was going to do component speakers but I didn't feel good about cutting holes in the doors of my 480 total miles car for tweeters. If I can figure out how to take the upper dash apart I think I'm going to install tweeters or ~3" speakers up there.

Man you guys should be working at Pimp My Ride. I am a total car / audio idiot.

Here's a question for you guys:

Should I get:

1) BOSE (OEM) Audio / Speakers
Pros:
Its OEM (i.e. for future re-sale)
Its supposed to sound great
Cons:
Can't really think of any

2) Aftermarket Speakers (and which ones would you recommend)
1) Its not OEM
2) Choice - but perhaps too much choice?

-Cost, Cost, and cost!
-Taking apart the dash to put in the speakers could cause unwanted rattles
-Bose Sound system in these cars is not that great

Aftermarket is really only the best way to go. That whole OEM Bose set up could cost Thousands! You would be better off getting one with the Bose already installed.

How about installing the ipod hookup to the non Bose stereo? Is that an option? I'm only good with engine stuff, I don't mess with electronics, cause I tend to screm them up.

Yes, they're more options available because the non Bose stereo has a MD port, but if you just want to hook up an iPod the standard Mazda iPod connector is fine.

Go aftermarket. You can get exactly what you want, including GOOD iPod integration. The Mazda iPod connector is pretty lame.
