Wee Bit of a Grind

Yes and no, The MSP uses abs sensors for the speedo. If you car has ABS then the MSP tranny is bolt in. If not then you need a speedo ring gear and you need to remove the diferential and have the gear pressed onto it.

If you are gonna replace the tranny then i say go MSP so you get an LSD as well (might as well make it an upgrade right?)

As far as aftermarket mounts go... My front mount was non existant so i replaced it with a AWR 90duro mount (or what ever the uber hard one was). Yes it makes vibes in the car but only at idle. It made 100% difference in shifting and even though my other mounts are dieing i very rarely get wheel hope. Hell even my wife got used to it within a week!

In the end if you plan on modding or driving the car a little harder get the AWR. If you enjoy your non vibrating car then get a stock replace ment and be ready to do it again some year later.

Hey, thanks for the info. I was actually thinking of the MSP as an upgrade...I mean, if I have to pay over $2500.00 to replace the stock one, might as well replace it with one thats better...mind you, anything other than the stock 2002 should be better.

I do have ABS so installing the MP3 would not be an issue. It would all be a matter of $$... Hopefully the MSP tranny is not much more expensive than a P5 or MP3...

On another note, I have the front and rear AWR mounts with a durometer rating of 70...I still get a bit of wheel hop but I imagine that is due to my filled passenger and stock driver's side mounts. I hate the idle vibes but love the instant, drama-less shifts.

I filled my passenger-side mount with a very soft compound...I should've used a harder compound and filled both side mounts...I did it right in my Neon and never had any problems with wheel hop afterwards...time to take the mounts off again...grrr (confused)

I just put in the SLS front mount. The stock mount after 111,111 miles was SHOT. Literally. In 2 pieces. And even though I still need to replace the side mounts, the difference is unbelievable. The Zoom-Zoom is baaaccckkkk!!! (cabpatch)(cabpatch)(cabpatch)(cabpatch)

Wow, it's pwned. Nice job on teh install.

If that's what you front mount looks like, I wonder how the rear mount looks? It was definitely time to replace it, and I know what you mean about the zoom zoom being back. Mine wasn't completely torn like yours, but it was well on it's way.

That's exactly how it looked. I took the bolt out, and that center piece literally fell out. ha...I hope the rear isn't to bad...I plan on doing the sides in the next week or so. I can't get a clear view of the rear or driver's side, so I really don't know what their conditions are.

Man, it's seriously alarming that the mount was that worn. Damn. An aftermarket mount is pretty much a requirement on these cars.

Greetings!
Im totally new to this forum and to Mazda as well. I bought a pretty sharp Protege5 last week and i love it! I do have just one problem/concern.
When shifting into 3rd gear often times (despite being careful) I hear/feel a slight grind or a click.
Has anyone ever dealt with this before? Have an idea what might be causing it?
Its not bad yet but its kinda annoying and Im trying to keep this car in great condition.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Sanoj

how loud is the grind and where is it coming from?

Its pretty quiet. I can feel it more than hear it. Im not exactly sure where its coming from tho.

it's probably the same thing i am getting. what i noticed is if shifting at high rpms it does it more. so like getting into second going 30 will do it, but at 20 it wont. is that how yours is?

i have an 03.... i hope it doesnt get any worse. i cant afford to drop that much to get this fixed.

Im not sure. My car is at the dealer getting the air bag light checked out (they're taking forever!). But i will mess around with it when i get it back to see if rpms makes a difference.
