WPC Treatment and Shot Peening

Has anyone tried shot peening their transmission gears?
Has anyone tried WPC treatment on any engine parts?

Seen a 2009 article in turbo magazine about the two.

As thinking about doing my transmission gears. Seems like a way cheaper solution to strengthen the gears then dropping the dough on PAR. Well I can't speak for WPC treatment as I haven't asked for a quote. Shot peening on the other hand I got a quote from superior shot peening, and they said its $250 to do a 5 gear set. Doesn't sound to bad.

What are your guys opinions?
My HP goal will be in the 300-350 range.

i think its worth a shot...especially if you already have the transmission out of the car and you dont mind dropping a few hundred to give it a try. if you decide to do it please let us know how they are holding up down the road. subbing.

edit: if you decide to do it...maybe see how much it would cost to have the shaft reinforcement cups made by a local machine shop to alleviate the amount of shaft seperation at that hp range if it can be done for a good price. ive been thinking about calling around in my area to get a rough estimate on the reinforcement cups.

I had some serious talks with several big money machinists that work with aviation and refinery shot peening/metal treatment techniques.
They basically said its totally pointless to shot peen transmission gears AFTER they have been final treated from mazda or whoever supplies mazda with their gears. There is no point, they must be treated before the final treatment for any strength gains or you could actually reduce the strength of the metals surface because it was already treated and you bashed the treated surface.

Yea no problem I was seriously thinking of having mine peened until I talked with a few people and they seem like they know what they were talking about. I'll look into it some more though because its so highly used in Aviation and I have a few acquaintances who are aviation engineers with Boeing. They seem to be the people in the know how about peening as far as I can tell.
