(hand) was thinking about buying new summer wheels and saw some real nice ones on Tirerack.com but noticed that you have to purchase the Tire Pressure Sensors for the wheels which cost $488 for 4 and that's not calculating the cost of the wheels, talk about BS(smash) If I'm not wrong we should be able to install regular rims without using the TPS and basically just removing the fuse for it so the idiot light isn't on all the time.

Has anyone done so?

I just bought rims and had discount tire put them on. 10 minutes from my house in a 40 minute ride the TPMS light kicks on! How in the hell do I get rid of this!?

You can have the TPMS sensors moved onto the new wheels.. yes, you'll get charged for that, but oh well. The only reason tirerack makes you buy new ones is that you're buying wheels with tires pre-mounted.. buy them with tires unmounted and you won't have to deal with it.. you'll just need to pay for mounting elsewhere.

Yes, you can swap them from wheel to wheel but then when you reinstalle the winter wheels, you'll have to swap them out again and basically you're asking for trouble.

If I'm not wrong there should be a fuse that you can pull out and the idiot light will go away and it will not affect the car.
