Weird tranny downshifts

Do the 5AT trannies have any reports of funky downshifts? Mine does some weird stuff. It upshifts fine, but when it downshifts that RPMs seem to go up and down. My girlfriend kept saying something was wrong with the brakes and I just drove it on a weekend roadtrip. It jerks around and has some really unstable downshifting behavior. It really feels more like a computer problem than anything. Are there any ECU updates related to this?

Never really noticed anything like this on mine. The only way to find out about the calibration would be to take it to a MAzda Dealer and have them check it with a scan tool.

Can you provide more data:

year?
model?
what are you doing when it happens?
When did it first start?
can you get it to NOT do it in some way?
Any other things, like just had an oil change, pulled a boat with it, etc.

If at worse, take the negative battery cable off overnight, let the CPU "reset'ish" itself and then see if that helps. I agree, I'd buy a code reader and check that or swing by the dealer and have them !FOR FREE! (stoned) check the codes.

Do you know of any specific code updates that they've had for this transmission that relate to that? I have an idiotic dealership that thinks everything is normal because they're stupid and lazy. I usually have to do all of the footwork myself and manipulate them to get anything done.

YES I have the same issue with mine. Mine is an 08 GT 5AT and it seems to do it all the time Iam taking up there to day to see if they can do anthing about it. I will keep you posted.

Please do. Mine was delivered to the dealer in the fall of '08 so it's possible that we both have the same older tune for the tranny. My dealer is awful so if yours is not then maybe knowing what they did for you can really help me. Good luck. I'll be watching for an update.
