I a looking in to buying an aftermarket intake, Iwas wondering if it wili afect my warranty at all? What intake would all of you recomend? I am going with the sport exhaust from the mazda accesories cataloge. I know that wont afect the warranty. If this has alrady be addresed please point me in the right direction.
thank you

Well I just took my car to the dealer three days ago for an engine noise. They told me it was a lifter and that due to my Cold air Intake they would not fix it under warrenty. After they told me the bill would be 900 something dollars I was like uhhh no. I am very ashamed to say i started looking for myself and all it was, was a spark plug had worked itself loose. I should have checked things like that to begin with.

MOTH!@# $%^&ERS

They suck....send a letter to Mazda. Tell you want their job becase they couldnt address an issue of a loose spark plug and start jerking about the intake and lifters.

I took the injen away 2 days ago, I will be calling the dealer to inspect the flywheel chatter problem and I didnt want them to say... "errrm you Injen intake is what is causing that chatter, we will not warranty that s***".

the bottom line is..... NO AFTERMARKET PART WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY......check into the MAGNUSON-MOSS WARRANTY ACT.

NOW, if the aftermarket part that you install causes some damage to another part....the dealer does not have to fix that under warranty....BUT they can NOT void your warranty just because you installed some aftermarket part.

say you install an install an intake.....and your struts go out....they are totally unrelated....they MUST warranty the sturts....

if ANY part fails....THEY must PROVE that they aftermarket part you installed caused the failure...otherwise....they are required to fix the problem under warranty....

THE BAD PART IS....even though its the law....this does not stop them from being asses about it....giving you a hard time about it....or anything of that nature...

Personally.....if I had to get warranty work done to my car....and the dealer was going to be that big of a dick about it....I am not sure I would want them working on my car to begin with.

another route you can take is.....just keep all the stock parts...and for something like an intake....IF you ever have an issue which requires you to take your car to the dealer for warranty work.....put the stock stuff back on......then swap it back when you get your car back....in the case of an intake....we are talking a max of one hour each way.....you just may save yourself DAYS of headaches just by taking the two hours to swap back each way.....

About the intake, just get a Cone filter and attach it to the stock arm. (thats what I did and maybe im going for a test on the track today)
I think the injen has NO PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT in our cars, not at least worth of its cost. (no dyno, but i did 16.9 and my friend 16.7)

Exactly...thats what Im concerned about

.....just keep all the stock parts...

Thats what I do...I even keep the rims, for me its like, if I want my car stock again, I just put the stuff back again.

.

Remember, Mazda mechanics are not different from any other GOOD mechanic. They may need the manual for wirings and stuff, no big deal...Mazda mechanics need the manual too

THat is a good idea, I will keep all of the original parts after the mod. Is theinjen intake to only one made for the portege5? does anyone else agree that I should just get a cne and adapter?
Thanx

heres the deal.....as for intakes....I have NEVER seen any dyno results of before and after other than those SUPPOSEDLY done by the maker themselves....and I trust them about as far as I can throw them.....most of the claims that they make are BS anyway...

from what WE have seen here.....nearly all the intakes made give you about the same actaul performance gain...maybe 1-3 WHP....that is about it....if that much....the BIG difference an intake will give you is throttle response...it will greatly improve...with all of them.

figure what fits into your budget......then consider if the LOOKS mean anything.....then make your choice and go for it.....

Persoanlly I have the INJEN...not because I believe it performs any better than any of the others.....its JUST AS GOOD....but I prefer the way it looks more than the others.....so its a combination of how it performs....functions.....and how it looks.....

I dont expect to get a large gain out of it. i know that most of them are all the same. i do like the look of your injen intake on your car. was that 1 complete set up or did you have to buy the elbo adapter past you air scencer seperatly? What other companies make a nice one for our cars

well, check Injen site....The kit for the Matrix XRS gives 18HP TO THE WHEEL!!!!

The Kit comes complete...filter, elbows...etc

ahhh....and 2 white stickers
