Trouble starting & burning smell

Alright so last night I was driving home in my msp and I realized the battery light was on...for about a week or two the car has had some difficulty starting. Sometime I get in and it starts right up sometimes it clicks once...twice...then starts and other times it just wont turn over on the first try but starts right up on the second or third attempt. Additionally, my PS/AC belt has been screeching loudly when I start the car up...I don't think this is the problem only because I have had a lot of trouble with the belt making the high pitched noise and it has been replaced several times due to it snapping...but when its cold and/or wet it makes the noise the most, so I didn't pay much attention to it because its been consistent for the two years i've had the car. I checked it out it doesn't look worn or like its rubbing...So anyways the battery light was on and then two minutes later it would go off, then three minutes later it would go back on, and so on and so forth for the half hour drive home. But when I was about 2 miles from home I noticed an awful smell, I can't put my finger on it, it doesn't smell like burning coolant, or burning rubber, kind of smells like a cross between burning clutch and brakes...Honestly, I cannot even describe the smell but it was horrible!!! So when I got home and looked under the hood I immediately realized she was running SO HOT, I left the hood open for over an hour to let her cool down and I also added coolant...I have a minor coolant leak that I have not yet located...anyways I tried to start her back up and nothing but a clicking noise....so I waited a minute and tried it again...STILL NOTHING, but all the electrical things started freaking out! I mean the locks were going up and down, all the lights were flashing, then the horn (that has not worked since I bought the car) started like quietly honking in bursts, then the alarm light started going off, so I was like oh your an idiot you set the alarm off...no the car continued to freak out, alarm light stopped flashing but stereo started flashing and the blinkers were going one at a time...Finally it just stopped...phantom of the MSP!!! Anyways at this point it was 2 am.... I went back out at 3 am to see if it had totally cooled off yet and it had, got in, started her up, and bam started right up, the battery light was not on, but immediately I could smell the awful smell again...I killed it and went to bed too tired to deal with it....today i went down and it won't even turn over it just clicks....

long story short my msp is all sorts of messed up... any thoughts, suggestions, ideas...anything please just let me!

i had a similar problem with the belts. they should NOT be breaking or squeaking regularly. my problem was the tensioner for the timing belt was coming lose and it caused the timing belt cover to scrape against the belts, which lead to 3 premature belt deaths in about 2 months time. what im thinking is possibly something is touching the belt and not allowing it to travel, that is why you get constant squeak, that is why battery light comes on intermittenly, and thats why you overheated. cuz that one belt does all those jobs. id say definitely look at the belt, seems to be the source IMO.

1 im thinking alternator jamming up or dragging can you spin it freely without the belt?
2 Battery getting overcharged by faulty alternator causing electrical problems and smell happend to my dad thought that battery was going to blow it was so fat!
