Towing with the P5

This was discussed a couple weeks ago - Just thought I'd post an update.

Bolted on the "Hidden Hitch" and made a 1200 mile trip in our manual trans P5 towing an approximately 900 pound load - 300 pound trailer with a 600 pound bike aboard

Nothing unusual to report - The car does fine, and does not really feel like it's working much harder than normal. Gas mileage dropped off about 2 mpg, and if cruising at a steady 70, the cruise control had a little trouble keeping up on the steeper hills - It loses 3 to 5 MPH by the time you reach the top. Upping the speed to 75 or better solved this entirely - No more losing speed on the uphill grades.

As with any car which has the rear axle close to the hitch ball, the stability of the trailer is just incredible - You never feel the trailer wagging the car around. If you didn't notice it in the mirror every time you looked back, you'd forget it was there all together after a little while.

I'm glad it worked out so well - This is likely to be a fairly regular task for our car. I'll let you know how it works out when the wife gets a ton of gravel for her rockery project in the trailer ;)
