So I've started hearing my brakes squeak when I slow down. Am thinking of replacing them myself but am afraid of damaging something, is there a tutorial somewhere on how to install new break pads? also, as far as dust, what brakes do you all recommend to lessen the amount of brake dust?

Note on those tutorials, many people only remove one caliper bolt and then swing the caliper up and out of the way.

Alot of people on the boards recommend Hawk pads but they can be noisy at times. Your best bet for basic replacement pads is your local auto parts store. Tell them what year/model you have and they'll bring up a list of options and help you select the right pads.

One more thing though, a squeek doesn't necessarily mean they need to be replaced. If they squeal every time you touch the brakes then you must replace them soon.

Thanks for the links Chyler. Yeah its not a every time sound, its when I hit the brakes at a certain speed and with a certain amount of force. What do you think of the EBC Green stuff pads that ProtegeGarage sells?

Dunno, haven't used them. When it came time to upgrade my Protege5 pads I got PosiQuiet Ceramic Pads from TriPoint (authorized vendor here). I don't know if they sell Mazda6 pads but those worked out great for me.

I've only got 6K on my MS6 so it will be some time before she needs brakes.
