Another brutal Canadian winter has left hard to remove salt on my interior carpet. How do I remove salt from carpet??? Please advise.

Thanks

lots of water and carpet shampoo. i take them out of the car and wash them in my laundry tub

Most self-service car washes have a mat hanger that you can prop you mat on and use the high pessure wand on. Then I usually follow with their vacuum to get most of the moisture out of the mat. Let it dry for a day or so in your garage before putting back into use.

more reason for all weather floor mats, and on top of that use carpet runner (that you put in homes) that is cut to fit and tucked in under the door sills to keep the muck out of the carpet... done it on all of our cars in the past 20 years and the carpet always stayed mint... added to resell value ;)

I knew I've seen this somewhere before.

Are you having an issue with the carpet or the mats? I think is the carpet if I read correctly (scratch)

If you drive in a cold climate, you'll very likely end up with white stains on your car's carpeting from road salt. Fortunately it's easy, if a little repetitive, to get the stains out. Here's how.

Steps

1. In a spray bottle, mix up a solution of 1/2 warm water and 1/2 white vinegar.
2. Spray the stained area with the solution.
3. Press a dry terrycloth towel over the wet area.
4. Remove the towel when it's soaked.
5. Repeat until the stains are gone.

Tips

* If you don't want to spend a whole day doing this, apply the solution whenever you happen to be driving. Just remember to remove the towel promptly and let the carpet dry out.
* Don't be discouraged by a deep-rooted stain. It will come out eventually.

Warnings

* Avoid the temptation to rub the stained area. It doesn't help and may damage the carpet.

Alternatively, if you use a foaming carpet cleaner from an auto store, you can use the soft plastic brush they provide to work in the solution. It will cleanse the area.

Note: Yes, the OEM all weather floor mats are really good

as good as they are, I still have a bit of white stain left from all the salt on the driver side, just because I'm always in and out of the car, and I'm used to driving manual where I knew exactly what to do with my left foot, unlike driving auto and always pushing on the side of the carpet. :)

I'm facing the exact same issue right now for the exact same reasons. My last car was an Eclipse GT-S and now that I have an auto I get into the car and immediately jam my left foot onto the carpet to the left of the brake. It just looks permanently snowy white now. Sucks.
