Sorry pr5owner, that won't work.
You see, European and Japanese games will not play on US PS2s. Europe and Japan have different color settings, power settings, and formats. To play one on your PS2, you have to buy a mod chip, take your PS2 apart, and solder some wires in and stuff. This not only has the risk of screwing up your PS2, it makes it so that Sony won't fix it at all, or at the least it will cost a ton to get it serviced by Sony. Now most of you are saying "well my warrenty is out so what's to lose?", and you are totally wrong. My warrenty was out like a year ago, and this August my PS2 stopped playing anything except DVD formatted games(GTA3 and GT3 still worked, they are DVD), so I call up Sony, explain my problem and what I did to try to fix it, and they had me send it in and they waved the service cost. Not only did they replace the laser unit, they replaced the tray which I didn't even know was broken. Both totally free, all I paid was $12 for the shipping to them, they paid the shipping back. $12 and it's brand new, even came back with a 30 day warrenty. Now, Sony informed me that if the little "void went torn" stickers on the PS2 were torn or tampered with, they would charge upwards of $119 to fix it.
It's a risk I don't want to take, and I don't suggest anyone trying.
