it seems like a i redline it whenever possible...could this be all that bad? anytime i dont see a cop or its not wet, i go to the redline...i just love the feeling of a shift at 7000rpm RIGHT before the fuel cutoff...sure the p5 isnt that fast but the engine is loud and has a nice sound, its pretty exhilerating

Isn't the fuel cut at 6500? I dunno if you wann run your car that hard all the time. Can't be good. Besides running it to the redline during shifts doesn't make it faster- you'll actually get lower times in the 1/4 from doing that. If your going, as you say, to 7k, it's way past the torque and hp curve peak.

Ar eyou really that much of an idiot to run your car that hard all the time. Our car in NO way was designed to be shifted that high that offten. Just wait until you f*ck something up and need to warranty it and the tell you to get lost. ACtually there is no reason to redline any car all the time. Who pays for your car, I hope it is you and not your parents and you are ******* for their money.

yeah...redlining that much isn't good for the engine or transmission...besides there's no point...our cars peak power and torque around 4k...maybe with a honda where the peak power is at 6k but not with our cars...

if we peak at 4K RPM would it be hard to run it up to 4 (but not past) often?

3/4 of the time lets say, the engine is makeing more power there and its easier for the engine to move the car as opposed to shifting @ 1800RPM

how about in an MSP? power doesnt seem to drop off till 6500ish

is it bad for me to shift my msp at 6500 (not always)

how often?

When ever possible it is not worth your time, nor engine wear to redline it. These engines were not designed out of the factory for high reving. Now it is "ok" to occasionally redline it but do not go around driving like that.

No need to redline it at all! You can definitly feel the car slow down about 6000rpm and it is almost feels like it struggles to get up to 7K rpm. Shifting around 6K-6.5K is optimal when racing. However, I shift around 3.5K-4K rpm all the time. Besides, redline it all the time will significantly increase the wear and tear on your engine! Even our gear ratios aren't set up for redlining the car... If you try shifting at redline, the follow-up engine rpm is outside the torque band which is plan in-effiecient. I used to drive a civic before and the only way to get it going was to redline the civic. It seemed that the engine enjoyed being taken up that high unlike my P5 engine.

it doesn't even need to get to 6000rpm to feel the power fall off. It starts to do it as you pass into 4500 or so. after that you are just tearing up sh!t. If you wan to redline it you need cams, pistons, valve springs and so on.

I disagree with the part about 4,500Rpm's. I see what you are getting at about not red-lining it though, and I would agree on that point.

I AutoX'ed a 1990 Protege LX 1.8L for right at 2 years... As an estimate, I would I say I hit the rev-limiter (Over 7,000Rpm's) about 250 times. I would race for autoX mainly in 2nd and use that gear to engine brake around sharp turns etc... The car didn't have any mods to the valve train or anything, in fact the engine was totally stock. It had 170K when I sold it, and still ran perfectly.

If the P5 actually built any power past 5750 or so, I would feel confident revving that high, not always, but on occasion. As it stands now, it wouldn't do any good... just a waste of gas. I'll run 1st gear to about 6250 if I am running it hard, but that's as high as I'll take it and that's only in 1st. The way I see it, we sacrifice top-end power for low-end torque, which suits the car's intended use pretty well. Otherwise I would bought a torque-less wonder like a Civic. *shrug*

Agree I tend to do the samething with the second gear, riding it into the entrance apex and reving it out on the exit. It gets a pretty good punch doing that.

But in regardes to the orginal post he was going it whenever possible, not just under race conditions.

Save the reving for the track not everyday driving.

And what about the MP3?

What is the peak rpm level before loosing power/torque?

Is the ECU and timing is tunned for more power @ higher rpm's?
Hence the 10 extra Hp?

who is redlining there car at 7k is a idiot

Yo dont be redlining your car at 7k u want to blow ur engine. Your engine isnt even broken in yet. your gonna bend a piston or possibly blow your engine if you redline there often and your car hasnt past 20000 miles. you need to be shifting at 4500 rpm max and not goin any higher until your engine is broken in. and dont be reving your car that high if its a cold day unless the engine heats up.

Think b4 u kill your car DUMMY !

So, according to this chart, it looks like we're missing about 12 HP from the 120hp we were told we'd have (??)

Anyway, my '03 has 2500 miles on it, and I can't help but take it out for the occasional windy-road race fantasy. I never drive like that for more than an hour, twice a week, and never past 5500 rpm, but on these Nor Cal coastal roads, it can be hard to get it out of second gear. The thrill is addicting, but am I pushing this new car too hard?

i try never redline...

I still have my mitsu mirage 97 automatic (100k mi. on it), and I always was redlining it every single day. Never had trans/engine problems....

Redline is there to prevent the engine to blow. So, redlining will not blow it!!!! But for sure will wear it. If it blows N/A, it already had a problem.

On my P5, Sometimes I redline instead of using the horn if someone is crossed in my way jamming the traffic :D , just for that .

For racing....I ALWAYS shift at about 6k rpm. Reving beyond that is a WASTE OF TIME, our cars are tuned for LOW-MID torque, not power. You will be running slower and weaker at 6500rpm+.
