Rear Strut Noise

Hey guys,

Recently have had this clunking noise coming from my rear strut. I took it all apart and can see what i think to be my rear strut mount gone. Guess I am just trying to figure out exactly how big of a job it is and if its a do it yourself one.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

oh wow, rusty!

I haven't replaced the strut mount, but i have replaced the struts and it's not too hard. I'd imagine getting the strut mount out is as easy as getting the strut off. The strut is held on the knuckle with two bolts, and the strut mount is held on with (looks at picture...) 3, i guess...
Oh, there's a sway bar end-link on the strut as well, you'll need to detach that before you can move the strut out of the way to get at the mount. Remove any clips and hoses on the strut body as well...

Torque specs and how to remove the struts can be found in the factory service manual, and i think there's a PDF version you can find/download on this site that will help you.

It's not that hard of a job, it'll probably take more than a few hours (for me anyways...) but you can do it yourself.

Oh, also, you might need a spring compressor... i'm not sure if you're just changing the mount that you'll need one, but it's something to look into... and make sure the strut tower isn't getting too rusty

It's the same job as replacing a strut. You can find a walkthrough on this site. The hardest part is getting the swaybar endlink off, especially if it hasn't been removed in a while since they the bolts tend to rust on. Should take no more than 1-2 hours, depending on your skill level and tools.
