the choice of 2 or 4 ohm is determined by the amplifier you are going to use. Some amps produce there best power at 4 ohms, others at 2. Thus amps and subs must be selected to match.
Manufacturers give you the option of 2 or 4 ohms so that you have the ability to use numerous amps and different numbers of subs.
As a quick guide, mono or single channel amplifiers tend to do there best at 2 ohms, where as a 2 channel amp will do best when bridged and given a 4 ohm load.
hey I have two Kicker L7's 12 inch, There 4 ohms. I have a Fosgate 600@4 crossed over. Have no clue if this is a good combo or how to tune it right. So I cant really help. But if any one knows what settings i should have feel free to tell me. Also since they are dual voice coils i know you can wire the speaker in parallel or series circuit, But i also dont know which to do. Help me too!?!?!?!?
What is the model number of your Rockford Amplifier and your Subs.
Hmmm the only numberI know is L7 for the solobarics and fosgate 600@4. What other numbers are you saying?
The minimum power you should be using for those subs is 300 watts rms apiece from a good amp no BS Jensen or Sony.
The kicker kx600.1 would be my reccomendation for 2 2ohm, dvd L5 10's. You wire the DVCs of each sub in seires to get 4 ohms per sub then parallel the subs together to get a total 2 ohm load which is the best to run the kicker amp at.
Is there a way i could wire 4 4ohm subs together and get a 2 or 4 ohm load, I know that if i wire them all parallel I can get a 1ohm load, but that would blow my amp to hell
"You wire the DVCs of each sub in seires to get 4 ohms per sub then parallel the subs together to get a total 2 ohm load which is the best to run the kicker amp at."
Here you go.
When you series the coils, the blue lines, it is like a single 4 ohm sub, when you parallel the subs, red and black line you get a total 4 ohm load.
If you think this is bad try wiring my 4, 2 ohm DVC JL Audio 8W3's.
