Does anyone know where I might be able to find a re-manufactured primary cat? Or possibly a universal one?

I've checked just about everywhere and the only place I can see that would have them is mazda themself. I'm no genius but I'm guessing the cat would sell for like 500-600$!!!!

All I want is to have a good one, and have one that I can hollow out for more flow.

Any advice on where I could get one would be great~!

Thanks

Didnt we talk about this in another thread? Hollowing one out for more flow is a bad idea. Oh, you have turbo. Ok, that might help.
But the turbulence will be a b****.

Go with a test pipe replacement instead. It literally takes 5 mins to pop in and out. You can do it with the car on the ground.

If you're set on the idea, just go junk! Find a wrecked protege, in any of its forms, they all share the same cat. Might want to check, could share the cat with other mazdas as well.

Personally, I'd go test pipe.

Well that's the thing.. I don't know if the standard 01' protege's have the same Cat system that the mp3 does, but we have 2 cats... A primary-that attaches to the turbo downpipe then to the exhaust,,, and a Secondary-found about 1/4 down the exhaust system.

I have already replaced the secondary cat with a test pipe. From what I've been told there isn't a way to create a test pipe for the primary Cat unless they cut the flanges off te cat and weld them onto the pipe-which would defeat the purpouse of me wanting a test pipe in the first place-I want to be able to rebolt the Cat if needed.

So in essence getting a test pipe made with stock flanges welded on, and or finding another used Cat and hollowing it out are the same thing and will do the same thing. I'd just rather have a spare Cat to cut up-instead of ruining the only one I have.

The flange on that first cat (installed on all 2.0 Proteges) is a weird one. Corky at Bell Engineering may be able to supply you with one. Then you can make a test pipe for the first cat.

When Corky had my car he made an off road down pipe which eliminates the cats entirely if that is what you want to do. I dont know if it is for sell or not. Can you say CEL

:wtf:

I don't think you understand the issue of the flanges. Auniversal cat won't work without welding and cutting... My whole point in this is to be able to bolt on and off as I wish. Also, the downpipe on my kit makes things even harder....

Now I could buy one of these highflow cats, but I'd either have to have someone create the flanges for me, or I'd have to cut the ones off my current cat. One's too expensive and the other defeats my purpose.

Now, I'm not trying to offend any greenpeacer's out there, I'm just wanting maximum flow for the turbo. I hope you can understand.
