Possible sponsorship?

Ok, I dare to ask the question.... How does someone go about getting their car sponsored?

I know for a fact that if I entered any car show out here in AZ-that I'd place in my class.. No one has seen anyhitng like the mp3 and having it all duded up makes things even better. Once I'm able to get all my performance mods under control I'll get the interior good to go (seats, dash, etc..).

I kow it's a super longshot for any sponsorship, but I was just wondering how it works?

ohhh Contrair... The ol' MP3 has been in a show at Firebird... But they did not have a stock category... so I just got alot of ohh's ahh's and questions...

We get approached for this on a regular basis. Here's a typical request:

"me and my BOYZ r making a kick-azz show car to smack down all comerz. Its gonna be phat. Will you sponsor us? We'll put your stickerz on the car and everything"

ummm.......no.

Don't approach anybody without a plan. What's the car going to look like? Where will it be shown? What's your track record and resume? Show the company that you'll be a good representative, and you might get considered. You're walking up and asking for money, so you need to be able to show what your sponsors will get in return. Be professional and anticipate the questions.

Most people who are "sponsored" basically got free stickers. It's considered cool to be sponsored so people pretend.

We went the other way with our race car - you don't get your name unless you actually contributed parts. The bigger the contribution, the bigger and more visible your name gets to be. We contacted some companies, but many actually contacted us and asked to take part.

One thing you might wanna think about that helped my friend out who used to race is make a blank mock up of the car on paper and show where and/or how you want to place their markers. One it gives prospective sponsors an idea of what the car looks like and two it gives them an idea of how visible their markers are. He actually had his sectioned off as costing a different price, ie the more visible the more it cost, i don't know if that's such a good idea with a show car or not; but it's a thought.

Think about what you are doing. . You are asking a company to give you parts, services, cash or other commodity in exchange for advertisement and exposure of their company, including its products and services. So you want to be able to show them at least a yearly plan of what shows and or races you plan to attend. You are "advertising" the potential sponsor, so you need exposure to potential customers for that company, so you need to be able to demonstrate why your car is going to get the exposure the potential sponsor wants. You need to "market" yourself and your car. Prepare documentation on your car, complete with specs, photos, schedules for the year, etc. Think of it as a car resume. The nicer and more professional the presentation, the better. Where a suit or coat and tie also. You want to look responsible and professional. . . . Do not limit yourself to "import" manufacturers. Hit up paint shops, sign shops, auto repair shops, restaurants, other businesses where the "import crowd" could be a potential customer.

Ive been around this for several years now... especailly with my bf's 99 Cougar. He was sponsored by several aftermarket companies and I saw what he went thru!

Ive started on my proposal and have heard back from 2 companies interested. I will be working with them for 2003. Once my exterior work is done, I will start on my performance mods --- Keith, expect an email sometime in the future
