okay this pic isn't amazing but;

1) what do you think?
2) What kind of paint would you use if you were to do it?

thanks Snooky~

No! Ive seen a LOT of people do them flat black. But thats the whole rim not just the star like u have it...

Not to be a dick, but that looks like photoshop....... I've taken a pic of my car and photoshopped the rims a glossy black to see how it would look if I had them powder coated and painted all the spokes and left the machined lip silver..... but I think I may be going with some HP designs mesh-spoke wheels....

I have seen them on here.. Also I had a toyota tacoma Xrunner and a couple people did it on them too. I got quoted today for mine and they said $75 per rim... What did you pay for the supplies???

no no no ur not being a dick at all, the pic was photoshoped i was just wondering what u guys thought if i were to do it... i dont even wanna do it anymore i think it would look better if it was al black

yeah snooky...... I don't think that one star design looks that good...... you should as I did and photoshop each spoke back, and leave the lip part the stock silver color, I think you'll like the results much better...... I know I did.....but instead of powder coating the car, I want a little bit of a lip, so I'm just going new rims all around.

uh the cans of paint i bought were a total of like $20 lol. i could powdercoat them if i want to, i have all those supplies too. just i don't think the mirror black i was gonna do would good anymore, so im just gonna rattle can them with wheel paint flat black. if they look like s*** i can get them bead blasted for cheap and then powder coat them with my coater.

www.eastwoodco.com nasty place to get powdercoating supplies and to get started. its fast and easy too and any beginner can do it and learn quick. oh yeah and for the price of doing your own rims you can pretty much start your own hobby from them.

You happen to live in south Florida so you can powder coat mine? LOL.... that would save me about $1400......

not to get off topic/thread hijack , but what do people think about these rims on a Black Cherry speed6.... would the black with chrome lip look good or out of place? 2 people have told me gun metal might look better.... I wish I had a program that easily let me match up rims to my car instead of having to photochop every rim I see..... I've tirerack.com and discounttiredirect.com but they only use the Mazda6 as basis, which looks different from the speed6 and doesn't really give me an honest view.

Opinions? I was thinking 19 inches. The top rim is from MRR Wheels and the bottom is from HP Designs.... anyone know anything in regards to reliability/durability between the 2 brands?

those rims are sick! the prob i have with two tonw rims is, that they make the rim look smaller because of the lip no?

Haha! Well, if you rattle can them make sure you prep them perfect! When i was researchin my truck rims there were people who did that and they peeled quick! Thats why i would rather have someone do it so they can fix it!

It all depends on the lip really and the sidewall height of your tires.... like getting "low profile" tires..... example.

215/40/18R

that's the stock setup for the speed6

now if you get 225/35/19R

the tires are going to be wider, the rims will be larger, and the sidewall of the tire will be more narrow, there won't be as much "tire" to look at when you look at the side of the car.

I'm considering that size above.... 225/35/19R unless I can get 235 length tires to fit on the car....

so it all really depends on the size of the rim and tire you choose.

i see what you mean.

whats the biggest we can go in width? i saw a mustang 2day with rear deep dish rims, it looked SOOOOO GOOD! the spokes were black with a huge chrom lip. the tires came out a bit...

it's hard to say......the offset is +55, we can't really do deep dish without the tires starting to come out from under the wheel well I myself was just thinking 19x8.5 or 19x9.5 there's a thing online you can use to check your factory width and a larger tire, to see if it will fit.

I've been trying to find it again but I've been having trouble.....it may be saved under my bookmarks on my other PC I'll have to check and post it up if I find it.....

eh i rattle can gloss blacked some wheels for an eagle talon i had, came out perfect and i hit them with the socket every time i went to put them on or take them off without any chipping. my process was bead blasting them down to metal. i used etching primer (1 can each wheel), sanded lightly, prep cleaned. black sandable primer (1 can each wheel), sanded lightly, prep cleaned twice. gloss black exterior paint (1 can each wheel) then let sit for a half hour after last coat of gloss black and did 3 coats of wheel clear on eaach wheel and let them sit outside in the 90 degree weather for a whole day, and let them sit outside all day for the next couple days (didn't need them on car for while). all in all they pretty much cured for a week. never had one problem with chipping or anything and i used to hit them for s**** and giggles just to see if something would happen.

--all in all, powder coating is definitely strong as hell, but spray can painting it can be just as good if your careful and do the job perfectly right 100% and save $$$
