It's the attack of the Mazda this month!!!!

Ol'speed won't come out reverse and I have to stall just to shift and when in first it does the same exact thing. This is killing me. Do I have to replace the clutch or is the clutch master cylinder the mastermind behind this destruction????

So the clutch won't disengage? The clutch itself is most likely fine...its either air in the clutch system (in the slave cylinder, clutch line, etc...can be easily bled)...a broken release fork, or a bad throw-out/release bearing...or even pedal position being out of wack, which can be adjusted pretty easily with the FSM...

Possible that something happened to the pressure plate related to disengagement...but when they fail, its usually the other way around...goes into gear but won't move the car...

start by working outside from in...first you'll need someone to push the clutch pedal with you looking inside the bay, engine off...note if the release fork and actuator is working with pedal movement...this should happen every time the pedal is pushed...if something is up with the fork, you may be able to see it from the front of the bellhousing...if that release fork isn't moving with pedal movement...its probably air in the line, or a damaged slave cylinder...either of which are pretty easy to fix...if that thing is moving properly, be ready to get the box off...

it takes less than 10 minutes to bleed the clutch with a friend helping...but i find this is the one type of bleeding that is actually easier with a vacuum pump...the pedal will push a ton of fluid out each time, and you'll need to refill the reservoir literally every pedal pump in order to not pull more air in...

Is your pedal staying on the floor and not coming back up? You really didnt explain the situation enough to help pin point the problem.

The msp will usually shift into gear but will not dis engage till I let the car die and restart again. I think the fluid on the garage floor maybe from this master or slave cylinder. Today I will follow your steps to check them both.

More on the clutch pedal when I press on it to shift from R to 1st it will lose pressure and go straight to the floor and of course will not dis engage from R. I always have to let the car die and restart switch to 1st and carry on my way. I'm starting to notice that the clutch is slowly losing pressure between switching gears especially when stuck in traffic. It will start to lose pressure when creeping in 1st.

good thing the parts are inexpensive. Does anyone have a diagram to where the master or slave cylinder is in the bay?

Yea, that doesnt sound like a clutch issue. But a hydraulic issue. Which is a good thing as its much cheaper to fix. Its gonna be 1 of three things. Clutch slave cyl, clutch master cyl, or the little rubber line connecting the two. All three of these can be replaced for under $100 bux.

Yup! Just figured out the other day it was the master cylinder and I already have one on the way. The master was totally rusted!!!! It was gross. Can't wait to get her back on the road again!!! Next week we'll be back in business.
