New BPV Option

Hey guys and girls! I just wanted to let everyone know the results of my little experiment this weekend. I went out and bought a Hyperboost adjustable DV from stratmoshere.com. This is a DV/BPV designed for Audi's and Wee-Dubs...it looks real flash, is adjustable, and will hold a metric ass ton of boost. I'll post pics tonight, but here are my inital thoughts:

1) Not the easiest install..need some bends and fittings to get it right

2) Still get a rattling *fttrrrr* blow-off sound. It just the car, because it doesn't make that sound on wee-dubs...

3) The adjustability factor is pretty cool...no shimming is necessary like the turbo XS BPVs, just a 15mm box end wrench.

I still need to clean up the install a bit, but as of now it looks pretty nice. So...in the end the real difference is looks, response, and adjustability that made this worth the 180$ to me. Pics to come...

ps. Anyone know where I can get one inch hose similar to that which is on the MSP (looks like it's wound with electrical tape) or perhaps even a braided metal covered type, to really clean it all up?

You can see why I want to get some other piping to clean in up a bit. That grey piece is a pvc 90deg elbow from our sprinkler system leftovers.

I don't think anyone's replied yet because it seems everyone wants a BOV noise and not a quiet BPV. Once I get my MBC and a job, for that matter, I'll be upgrading to hardpipes with a better BPV.

You mentioned response.. How did that improve?

It's not entirely noticable, I'd say...unless you have solid 1/4-second judgement. It could be a placebo effect, but to be honest with you I think that the old valve may have been leaking a little bit. i was getting a low *fumpf* kind of sound while spooling before that I no longer have. I still don't ahve a boost guage so I'll have to see how it recovers once i get that in a couple of weeks. BTW...how'd you do that stuff in your sig?!? PM me...

Nice work. I definetely agree with you on the leaking. Ill be upgrading to a new BPV pretty soon.

i'll have the bov noise hopefully in 2 or three weeks im goign to a company next week to get them to make me a custome pipe that i think will fix that fluttering sound. when i get it and if it works i'll post result, i think its the placement of the bov, as serpentkilla has said, i have to agree with him if it was attached to the pipe off the throttle body i think this would solve that sound.

Does this DV have 1" diameter on it? If so how did you solve the 3/4" to 1" problem?

yeah it's got a 1". We cut a piece of 3/4" and put it inside the 1" hose to get it to fit right.Then there's that elbow from our sprinkler system which was 3/4" out sso we sreed in the hose and taped it up. It doesn't look like the cleanest install, that's why I'm looking for braided covers...hopefully do that soon!

Based on your pictures above, you have the DV installed backwards:

- The hose coming off the turbo to intercooler pipe is for the DV inlet (bottom of DV).

- The hose going to the intake pipe is for the DV outlet (side of DV).

Just an FYI so you don't damage your turbo.

Thanks for the heads up shawn. I did some research before this and found this:

He's got a really good test going. My other problem is that if I install it the other way I'm not sure that the vac. line will reach. I wonder if that'll get rid of the turkey sound....hmm...I'm gonna have to cut that vac line in a couple of weeks when I do my Blitz TT install, so I may just replace that vac line if it's too short. I'll try to turn it around tonight and see if it still makes the turkey noise. I'll email stratmosphere, too.

UPDATE: Pete from stratmosphere said he wouldn't install it backwards so I'll have to fix that this evening. Hopefully that stupid vac line that taps te one i need from from below won't restrict it too much.

The DV is a valve that is supposed to flow in only one direction ---> from the inlet to the outlet. If you set it up backwards, the air will not be discharged and you will get compressor surge.

I would highly suggest installing it in the correct orientation. Buying longer vacuum hose is much cheaper than replacing a damaged turbo.
