MSP Oil filter recommendations?

Where do you people get a Mobil1 filter? I did a search on their web-site and it said nothing for 50 miles and I live in a semi-major city (Minneapolis).

I've just settled on either a PureOne or Amsoil filter.

1) you're too honest, just tell him you have a 626 V6 and be over with it
2) the parts guy is a moron
3) go to another dealer

I would, but all the dealers around here charge $8 for it so I use Bosch or PureOne, plus I hate going through this:

Me: Can I get a filter for a V6?
Dealer Parts Guy: What kind of car do you have?
Me: A Proteg 5.
DPG: That doesn't have a V6.
Me: I know.
DPG: You can't use that filter.
etc...etc

What about Amsoil's filter? I've seen the numerous debate on the oil...and that seems quite expensive. But the filter itself stacks up (price-wise) with the Mobil1 one (which doesn't seem to be sold in the Midwest anymore)....

I saw an Autozone selling K&N oil filter when I stop by to get some glass cleaner last week. Has anyone try or heard anything about their oil filter on a MSP?

Welp...K&N makes good products, no doubt. I'm sure the filter's just fine, but not 15$ and special order fine. I've been looking to get one from advance auto parts, but you have to special order. And as for the price, K&N loves to gouge...just grab a purolater. One of the best paper filters you can get...that or a wix. If you've got the dough, try the K&N, but when an oil filter cost that much you best feel some sort of improvement, and I doubt you will...

Hmmm - that's what, about 40WHP... :D

Oil looks great 2000 miles later with the Fram... willing however to try any good filter and will go OEM only if it's under $5.

Peace,

MAZDA genuine oil filter cause you get a packing for the drain plug so no risk of cracking or stripping the pan and the gasket is made of a quality material less likely to have a double gasket mishap (common w/fram) I use amsol 5w30 for initial start up and the matching filter cause they recoment 12000 mile intervals with the two products together in a good running engine I still chage every 2-3 thousand miles

i still dun see the difference between redline MTL / redline MT-90... anybody care to explain instead of they r bout the same....

Redline MTL = Manual Transmission Light
It's a lighter weight oil to reduce hp losses, but I'd only use it in a racing machine.

Redline MT-90 = Manual Transmission 90 weight
This weight is what's spec'ed by Mazda for the tranny lube.

I used MT-90 in my 300zx twin turbo 5 speed; it worked well for 8 years. Really smoothed out the shifting. Of course, the dealer had put hypoid gear oil in the tranny to try to fix the gear grinding problem which only made it worse. Too slick for the synchros to work. NEVER trust a dealership to work on a high performance car.

I use Redline Super Light Shock-Proof Gear Oil in my transaxle. That stuff works soo good! It is in the gallon container, and looks like popcorn butter. NO grinding anymore!

I just got a ten pack of OEM's for $40. I know that you can get them individually as well. Let me find out where they got it from and I will let you know. Dang it can't find it right now......give me a day or two!

You use a Synthetic and chnage oil every 2000 - 3000 miles? Even our car manuals say 5000.

How often do you follow the manual???
If you drive your car and when I say drive I mean DRIVE it then you should definately do it every 3,000. Now if you are my grandma, then you would do it every 3 months because you would never get past 200 miles! and if you are like my mother in law you have a freakin light that tells you when to change (Beamer's and their dummy lights!).
More or less it is up to you when you want to do it. Personally I do it 3,000 miles, but hey if you want more dirt in your oil going through a turbo then sure 5,000 is fine!

I use the........

OEM Mazda Filter, with Mobil 1 (5w/30), and I change it every 5,000 miles. And; that is just perfect!

Damn, I need to get that damn Penzoil filter off they gave me at Jiffy Lube (while I was in San Antonio, and couldn't change my own oil)!
