mp3 speaker upgrades

i want to upgrade my speakers, but i want to stay in the kenwood line, what do the car sound tech have to say? what speaker should i use for the front and rear please include the sizes and model

bluedevil.....we are going to assume your finger twitched....but you posted the same thread twice....please delete one of them.

as far as the speakers are concerned.....you just need to figure out what is better than what you have now...

the fronts are 5X7's but 6X8's and even a 6X9 will fit with some work...

I am not sure what the stock size is in the rear of the sedan's though.,....anyone want to throw in on this one?

the double thread was a mistake........ just want to start w/ a kick azz in-car system first b4 i go into the truck w/ a killer sub

The Sedans have 6x9s in the rear deck.
P5s have 6.5s with some adjustments rihgt?

There is also room in the rear doors for speakers in the sedan, but from what I understand you get better sound out of the rear deck.

As for better speakers in the Kenwood line, you would have to get the Excelon speakers or whatever they are called. And, I don't know if they have them in the right sizes. I think they have 6x9, but the front door speakers are gonna have to be different size than stock 5x7 I think.

Last time I looked into this, the sales guy tried to push me into another line of speakers that were in the stock size because Kenwood didn't make the Excelon in that size. However, this was about eight or nine months ago, and things have probably changed.

I would also get better speaker wire for all speakers, inlcuding the sub, and a better power cable for the sub. That'll help with sound quality.

in REALITY the stock rear door speakers in the P-5 are 6's, but 6 1/2's fit with NO problem....the only thing is the that THREE HOLE mounting for the stock speakers is a bit ODD....they are not exactly 120 deg. apart....so you MAY have to drill new holes for the mounting screws....what I did was drill the holes on the speaker frame...NOT the door. it was easy enough to do.

Good choice Nuke. Did you use Dynamat or similar product in your doors? I read your post about the wiring hardness. I also looked at the site where you saw it. Did you end up going with an aftermarket adaprter or just pin it out yourself?

Thanks

for one reason or another I decided not to dynamatt the doors....I could have easily enough...but didn't...that may be a future project.

the harnesses....ya see...since I was using the stock head unit I requied both a standard harness to attach to the cars harness...PLUS the reverse harness that hooked up to the back of the stock head unit....that is if I wanted to make a jumper kind of adapter that I could tap into the speaker wires WITHOUT ever cutting the actual harness of the car....

SO, after a very UN-fruitful search for the harnesses, all three companies I found that made them were out of stock/back ordered, or just plain unavailable even though they had part numbers for the reverse harness, I decided that after having all my equipment sitting for two weeks I would just tap into the speaker wires of the harness and put bullet nose connectors on and be done with it....and I did...and even though its a pain workin through the hole in the dash...it went off without a hitch. SO, no I didn't end up using the adapter harnesses....but I didn't have to pin it out either....just tap the existing wires.
