All Eagle "ESP" Connecting Rods are manufactured from a TWO-PIECE FORGING. The forging process forces the grain into the shape of a connecting rod, resulting in a superior fatigue life. The rod cap is forged separately so that the grain runs perpendicular to the load forces, which strengthens the connecting rod. Many aftermarket connecting rods are manufactured from 4340 steel. 4340 specs allow a range of different materials to achieve the desired results. Although it is a more expensive process, all Eagle "ESP" 3-D connecting rods also include higher content of nickel & chrome, which increases the strength & fatigue life without making the connecting rod brittle.

Extensive testing has proven Eagle's two-piece forging superior to any one-piece forging on the market! All Eagle "ESP" Rods are clearly identified. Proper rod bolt torque is vital to connecting rod life. A rod bolt fastner is without question the highest stressed fastener in the engine. The big end bore of the connecting rod is a stressed bore in much the same way as cylinders are on a block. It is equally important to torque properly to provide proper strength & to insure the big end of the rod sizing is correct. Improper torque will result in premature rod failure!

bump for Ken! I would be all over this but I just bought the eibach antiroll kit so funds are slightly limited. I should see if I cant get some bday cash a little early from the folks......

what would these rods do for someone whos looking to boost down the road but needs to wait to get there. Any negative effects of running them without boost? would they boost power or would they lower it?

they would have no adverse effect on a stock motor and they would not make any less power or really any more. they really just strengthen the internal aspect of your engine over the thin and weak stock rods.

now I am not a genius with this stuff, so i have a question too. is it the rods or the pistons that will effect the compression? I know I have heard it but dont remember. Also, if planning to boost, is just forged rods enough? or will the pistons also make a huge difference?

really? so i got the re-called version? uh-oh.... it wont fail or crack right?

they were "re-called" supposedly because the manufacturer they had making them could not meet demand...mazda's internal website shows the part as presently unorderable or in "recall" status and when i called them they gave me something similar to the above as thier explanation. there are two left in the country and the dealers who posess them outright refuse to sell them to me unless i pay way over retail. i am afraid they might be doing this with the flywheel too now. rest assured nothing is going to happen to your clutch, flameboy.

mazda just sent out a brand new mazdaspeed catalog and ALL the new stuff and most of the old stuff is coming up low on stock, unorderable or not even ready. they overestimated and underadvertised the protege and miata stuff two years ago and now they overhyped and underdelivered on the newest batch of mazdaspeed parts. it puts me in a bind and puts my customers in a bind not to mention what it does to customers around the country.

while i am on this gripe - mazda can't even stock EGR tubes for my intake manifolds. they are backordered for at least thirty days, of all things, EGR pipes. they keep misshipping calipers and pads to me, or better yet, shipping empty boxes. its a logistics nightmare that throws my whole schedule off.
