To make this car a fun reliable car as it was suppose to be you really only need to spend ~1000 more. I'm saying for a maybe 200whp car.

AFC 380
SMIC 400
remove the cats, or get a midpipe 100
626 intake mani. 150-250

With those the msp will run how Mazda should have built it.

do the cats really make that much of a difference?

like out of those mods, which two would probably be the most beneficial to get?

Im guessing the AFC and intake mani?

Dannyboy, try a junk yard......

Neox, IMO you should free up the exhaust first. Because if you're adding more air, then where will it go? stock exhaust is fairly restrictive. Here's the order
in which I should have done it, AFC, exhaust and IM, then a smic.

thanks msp35

yea, you probably are right...I didnt think about that

unfortunately though I cant take off the cats on mine, cause I live in california and our smog laws are just crazy stupid...if you take off the cat you will fail period =(

I might do it though after my next smog check haha

Just keep the stock parts, or poke out the cats. Well I don't know if you can clear the stock cats but aftermarket have a fiberglass honeycomb you can break apart for freer-flow.
